Also, for Karlsson, it's possible (likely?) that he might not have been willing to sign an extension in Dallas. If San Jose was one of a handful teams with which he would agree to re-sign, then San Jose could get away with a crappy offer.

Wheareas I looked at Wheeler's contract (he had more points than Seguin) and thought the opposite.

:rimmer

Seguin is much comparable to Tavares. Again, Wheeler is a winger and he's significantly older. Seguin took a hell of a home team discount.

LOL then why did you even make that Wheeler contract comment in the first place? It screamed hometown discount! Move your goal posts up your ass.

I didn't expect Seguin to take a hometown discount.

Fine. I didn't expect Karlsson to end up a Shark.

This year, the Sharks have $29.9m locked up in their defense. Two players, Burns and Vlasic, are locked up for another 6 years at a combined $15m cap hit. If they add Karlsson at, say $9.5m a year, that's $24.5m for three players, all on defense - through 2027 all with no-movement or no-trade clauses. All very good players, but that's a lot of resources tied up in the same position.

You guys often underestimate the draw of a quality organization that treats its players well. Half the owners in this league openly throw their own players under the bus after every loss.

Panarin fills a legitimate need.

Panarin
Skinner

I'm betting at least one of those conditional picks is tied to him signing an extension.

So they were scared he wouldn't like the WC travel schedule? That's an interesting clause.

edit: oh nm. Read it backwards. The Sens just don't want competition.

This is finally going to be the year Sharks go all the way.

The previous 17 times the hockey media has said that were wrong, but this is it.

Yeah, it's a super weird one that is also handcuffed by them making the Finals ...

This makes me happy.

Also, if you read into some of the conditions of the picks (second paragraph), it might not be a given going into this that he extends in SJ, they might just be going all in for Jumboner Joe's last season. Man, I really hope Evander Kane ends up rubbing him the wrong way LOL.

That second part is confusing. 2018/19 is this season coming up, right? So if SJ trades Karlsson to an Eastern team, they also forfeit their 1st?

I'm assuming that was because SJ Hoffmaned Ottawa a few months ago and made them look bad. That must've been a hell of a conversation over that particular clause (if I'm reading it right).

It sounds like Nill also refused to trade Dellandrea. Not sure how I feel about that. Heiskanen I get, but man...if that was the sticking point for Karlsson.

If Nill refused to include Dellandrea, he should be fired immediately along with receiving a public flogging.

That’s it. Zetterberg hangs ‘em up. It’s weird that he played all 82 games last season.

Man, the Wings are pretty much exactly where the Stars were in 2011-2012.

Must suck to be a Wings fan.

San Jose is expected to offer Karlsson an 8-year deal, but it sounds like he's going to wait and see how much he and his wife like the city plus how well the team does, so 30 NHL teams better pray that the Sharks get off to a slow start in time for the TDL.
