If anything, Wheeler’s contract drives the price up for Seguin.

Also, if you needed a new reason to subscribe, Down Goes Brown now writes for The Athletic. That took longer than I thought.

It does, though. If Wheeler got that much as winger (who are traditionally less valuable than a top line center) and as someone who is leaving his prime years (whereas Seguin is right in them, and will be for the majority of the new contract), then Seguin is worth more than Wheeler, which puts us right back into Tavares territory. Maybe more.

Counterpoint: Winnipeg has to pay a premium because no one wants to *fargin'* live in Winnipeg.

Complementarypoint: Dallas also has to pay a premium to sign guys because no one is eager to play for this terrible franchise.

Yzerman is stepping down as GM of the Lightning.

Good, because I'm assuming we'll suck this year and Nill will get fired.

My boys are convinced he will be going to Detroit. (Yzerman, not Nill)

Stick him on the second line. Can't be any worse than Spezza.

Word is Ken Holland is bailing on the dumpster fire of his own creating to go run things for Seattle, and Yzerman will be taking over in Detroit.

They'll still be better at goaltending than Kari Lehtonen.

I'm shocked at Stevie Y stepping down. I get why, but the odds of Tampa winning the Cup soon are so damned high. I'm sure they'd send him a ring though just like the Hawks did for Dave Tallon.

On the other hand, I am happy that Julien Brisebois is officially taking over because now he can't be the Habs GM.

I guess even the very real chance of winning 2-3 Cups doesn't match the shittiness of having to live in *fargin'* Florida.

Maybe this is him quitting in frustration because he lost the Karlsson bidding war to Nill.

Yzerman's secret shame is that he will never be able to be a real GM because he can't grow a dadstache.

For what it's worth, Kypreos from Sportsnet said the Stars have the best offer for Karlsson.
