If it's not Neal, the only other options are trades, and the Stars don't have a lot to offer in a trade.

7 years/77 million. Nill should run to Seguin with the exact same deal, except give home 8 years. If Seguin was waiting to see what Tavares got, this didn’t really help him in my opinion, seems like he gave Tor a hometown discount.

Islanders fans are going to boo the *poo poo* out of him every time he returns lol.

Leafs are on the rise. Way closer than the Isles and he goes home. Good for him and TO.

You know they won't be booing him in the playoffs...

Curtis McKenzie signed by Vegas. Our AHL team will be hurting from that loss.

Mike McKenna signed by Ottawa. Again, our AHL team will be hurt by this.

On second thought, I never wanted Tavares anyways.

Tortorella is better than Burke:

https://theathletic.com/415536/2018/07/ ... nguins-gm/

The Blue Jackets weren’t interested in signing defenseman Jack Johnson to a contract extension this offseason, and they didn’t seem too upset at the thought of him signing with the rival Pittsburgh Penguins. But that all changed Sunday with two comments — one by Johnson, the other by Penguins GM Jim Rutherford — as Johnson was introduced in Pittsburgh after signing a five-year, $16.25 million contract with the Penguins.

Johnson, who spent seven seasons in Columbus, said of his new organization: “I’ve been looking to be in a winning culture.”

Rutherford, who has taken heat from fans in Pittsburgh as word of Johnson’s long-term deal leaked, made a cryptic comment about why Johnson was a healthy scratch for the Blue Jackets during their first-round loss to Washington in the playoffs.

“I don’t think he had a bad year,” Rutherford told reporters in Pittsburgh. “He was a healthy scratch at the end of the season. I know the reason why. It wasn’t because of how he was playing.”

“All I know is, this organization, from the lawyers, the front office, J.D. (John Davidson), the managers, the coaches, players … has done nothing but try to help Jack,” Tortorella told The Athletic. “And for him to backhand slap us like this is utter bullshit, and he should know better...The thing that pisses me off the most is a general manager in this league questioning and talking about our decision-making,” Tortorella said. “Shut the *f-bomb* up!

For a team with serious secondary scoring issues, we sure seem to be letting a lot of scoring wingers get past us.

Agreed - but I'm kinda ok not paying Neal $5.75m per for the next five years.

I’d rather not score a single goal next year than being Neal back here.

Yeah, that's a really shitty contract at this point in Neal's career.

James Neal is 30 years old. Yeah he's worth that easily.

Based on average decline over 5 years, his production should go from 24-30 goals per season to 19-25 goals per season by the end of his contract.

The value of money will also decline during that time.

It's really not that bad a contract.

Calling Neal a "24-30 goal scorer" is a little optimistic, no? In ten seasons he's hit 30 twice, and just once since 2012. And that's with Brad Richards/Crosby/Malkin feeding him saucer passes. He's already on the decline at 30 at the start of that contract. It's going to look like *poo poo* two or three years from now.

He's a first liner on all but like 3 NHL teams. I think it's a pretty reasonable contract.

He wasn't even a first-liner on an expansion team.

I'm actually surprised at Neal's stats. I thought he scored more, but I guess I based that on the one 40 goal year he had and the fact he scored on the Stars every time he played them.

lol. He had the 4th most forward ice time on a team that went to the Finals, is another way to look at it. Either a first liner or your best second liner. Better than Spezza and cheaper, even if you go back to before this season.

He only scores huge and awesome goals.

Against us.

It would be worth it just to sign him so he can't do that any more.

He loves scoring on the team that drafted him. I would too but he’s become a journeyman. 4 NHL teams have let him go and he’s now on his 5th, at 30 years old. Good for the flamers.

Leafs have Nylander as a RFA this off-season.
Matthews and Marner next off-season.

The Isles would be idiotic not to offer sheet all three of Nylnder, Matthews, and Marner.

But then again, it might make their weekly golfing rounds slightly awkward if they did. So it will probably never happen.

You're always all in on this offer sheet stuff. You really have an offer sheet boner.
