The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward Mikkel Boedker, defenceman Julius Bergman and a 2020 6th rounder from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Mike Hoffman, defenceman Cody Donaghy and a 2020 5th rounder.

Simmons is a damned good player, but he’s on the backside of his productive years. The good news is he’s not overpaid and he only has one year left on his deal.

Panarin is awesome. Super awesome. He’s younger than Simmons. He’s also a guy you want to sign to an extension if you can, but it would be freaking expensive.

Also, I hate to break this to you, but the 'd' does not belong on the end of his name. It's really out of place. You read it as "Simmons" but then ... wTF? There's a 'd' there? *f-bomb* that noise.

Simmonds is also going to be 30 when the season starts. He's also been a very physical player, which never helps with longevity. The thing is that talk only matters if you're thinking about extending him. I'd worry about giving him another five seasons at big dollars for a dude in his 30s who took one hell of a beating with the style he plays.

If this is only about trading to get one year from him, then I'm not so worried about it. Hell, his contract is actually ideal for a team looking to go for it this season because his salary is higher than his cap hit. With a cap hit of just under $4 million, he's pretty cheap as impact wingers go. I guess it comes down to what you'd have to give up to get him. As barren as the farm system is, what do you offer the Flyers?

Skinner from Carolina is also available, but he's such a huge risk with his concussion history.

Domi is another Winger, scored 9 goals last year (4 of them were empty netters), and is smaller.

The Habs already had 9 million in unused cap space last season.
Domi has 36 career goals, Galchenyuk had 30 goals in one season once ...

Speaking of terrible trades, one thing to consider is that the Sens traded Hoffman to San Jose, which is geographically the furthest away NHL city from Ottawa, only to have the Sharks flip him right back to the Atlantic division (for a better return too) ...

I don't think the Sens will be doing San Jose any favours for a looooong time LOL.

I also hear Ryan O'reilly is available. How about Johns +Shore and Spezza? I don't know that Buffalo would do it, but I know most Stars fans would in a heartbeat. The Spezza and Oreilly salaries are the same, so moneywise its a wash, but Buffalo only has to deal with it for one more year with Spezza, then they can plug one of their prospects in his spot. The Stars just take on the same money for a couple of more years. Definitly solves 2C problem.

Babcock makes about 6.25 million per year. Sure, Trotz won the cup this year and his teams are usually pretty competitive. Not sure if he is worth 5, though.
