It all goes hand in hand. A GM failing to provide the players a coach needs to run his system is a nice excuse for a coach. The coach not using the players he has in a way that maximizes their skills is a nice excuse for a GM. There's some mix of the two going on here for sure.
Ultimately, this roster isn't built to do what Hitch wants them to do, and it's far easier to find a coach than it is to change out half the roster. Ownership isn't willing to invest the money and time in re-shaping the roster to suit a coach who isn't a spring chicken and who doesn't inspire anyone these days after coaching the worst collapse in the cap era.
Hitch ended up doing a worse job than I ever expected. I wasn't excited about Hitch being hired, but I was sure the team would end up better than it was under Hitch. It sucks. Pretty much the second wasted season in a row. First, they decided not to buy our either Niemi or Kari. Then they run to add a coach who was a poor fit. Seems like both blunders have Gaglardi's fingerprints all over them.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.
