TSN's 31 Bold Predictions. (spoiler: not all of them are all that bold) But,

10. DALLAS - Rookie bench boss Jim Montgomery will win the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year. Unlike last year when Dallas epically collapsed, the Stars might start a little slower but will be one of the NHL’s best teams in the second half of the season as they become a dangerous playoff opponent.

The Adams generally goes to the new coach who takes a non-playoff team and has them do well. One requirement is already satisfied.

They will be the best team in the NHL and Jamie Benn will score 50 goals once they are out of the playoff race.

It also means that Montgomery will be fired two seasons later, max.

True enough. The curse of winning an Adams award is the expectation that it must quickly be followed by a Cup win.

And if anyone cares the tsf h2h draft is tomorrow at 9pm CST. Jason left me in charge for some reason...

Man would a legit scoring winger on the second line significantly improve our roster.

It’s already become the elephant in the room that management will ignore for YEARS (while everyone and their dog gripes about it) and will only finally address just in time for the next elephant to move in.

D corps; Lehtonen; Secondary Scoring etc.
That’s a decade of easily solvable problems leading into the other, which is why we’ve only made the playoffs 20% of the time since.

I'm still trying to figure out why Nill signed Polak in the first place....

I wouldn't say management ignored the need for secondary scoring, but they failed to fix any of it because of year after year of failed draft picks. Because of a decade plus of bad drafting, Nill tried to generate secondary scoring by trading for Sharp and Spezza and by signing vets like Eaves, Hemsky, Hanzal, and Radulov. But of those names brought in, most were on their last legs as NHLers. When you suck at drafting, you ultimately create more holes on your team because every time you plug a hold with an expensive vet, you take money away from another area of need.

Today, Nill has a roster with almost all of his cap space spent and still has major holes he can't fill. Of their cap money already committed, the Stars have dedicated 23.6% to Spezza, Hanzal, Methot, and Polak. I bet when the season ends, we see maybe 50 total points scored by all four of these guys combined. Spezza might be playing his last NHL season. Hanzal is going to miss a big chunk of the season and will likely be a shadow of himself when he returns. Polak will probably play 20 games at most. Of those four, Methot is the only one likely to finish the season with a positive grade.

That's depressing. Also points to Nill not being good at his job.

And I can guarantee the Benn contract will be an albatross. Probably in about 2 years.

I think we need to find a Safeway to ease Hanzal back in to the lineup when he is healthy.
