Friedman was on NHL Network's NHL tonight and said if Ryan has to be part of the deal, then Vegas probably makes the most sense. If Ryan is not, then Dallas is really serious about a deal.

The Stars have signed center Devin Shore to a two-year contract with an AAV of $2.3-million per year.

Devin Shore isn't Erik Karlsson?

Oh, then I don't care.

FFS, is he supposed to be the 2nd line center? We can replace him for league minimum.

Hopefully he's in Ottawa for 2018-2019 season.

Looks like the Stars also signed Adam Mascherin. I bet he’s playing sooner rather than later.

I think there’s something to this as well. He gets drafted by Florida, tells them to *f-bomb* off, re-enters the draft, 4th round pick, and immediately signs an ELC with Nill. It will be interesting to see if he’s got game.

Telling Florida “thanks but no” gives me an increased level of confidence in his decision-making skills.

I also wonder how his ELC compares to the usual 4th rounder.

OR it’s because he’s already on a much better pace to being overripe after telling Florida no in 2016 and we all know that Nill LOVES them shits.

Can we trade for Karlsson already? I have food for his welcoming party that's gone bad already.

Good read on our secondary scoring issue (fun fact from the article: we were a 76-point team with one puck-moving d-man, and a 107-point team with two):

I agree, we should bring back Goligoski.

It's actually a pretty optimistic article. Basically says that teams with more than one puck-moving d-man did exceptionally well last year. Mentions that we did exceptionally well when we used two puck-moving d-men, then goes on to say that next year we'll have three puck-moving d-men in Klingmann, Honkus/Karlsson, and Heiskanen, with a sortof offensive d-man in Johns as well.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but no second scoring line was kindof built in to Hitch's entire system, no?

He was basically given 2 1/2 second line centers in Spezza, Hanzal, and Faksa. He gave fourth line minutes to one, third line minutes to the others. When they were in, they were instructed to stay up and support the D rather than attack and score. And there was only one offensive d-man, and he played mostly with our first line, which coincidentally was also our only line that was allowed to try and create scoring chances.

We'll see how Monty handles it, but I see our lack of secondary scoring as more of a "coach/system" thing than a "talent" thing.

No I think we really don't have secondary scoring, unless Hitch caused Spezza to stink. It's a possibility though. One can hope.

We'd better hope it was all Hitch because Nill has done nothing to improve secondary scoring. The forward group is no better than last season.

Don't worry guys. Nichushkin is taking on an expanded offensive role this season.

So Friedman said that just like the Lightning, a deal was never actually close with us either.

At this point I’m hoping that EK just plays the year there and then leaves for nothing later like Tavares (and Seguin LOL).

Seguin is so gone. He went from playing for the Cup to start his career to playing for a *poo poo* franchise.

Yep. If Seguin wants to win, he won’t stay. If Seguin doesn’t care about winning and wants to get paid while enjoying relative anonymity and a pressure-free environment, he will stay.

The stupid thing is that it didn't have to be this way. Nill is not a good GM.
