Just two more goals and this lead is safe.

Eichel continues to fit solidly in the “nice player but seriously oversold” category.

The Sabres are an awful team, though.

Exhibit A on why teams shouldn't tank on purpose.

Also hiring former players who have no coaching experience to head coaching positions maybe isn't the brightest idea.

He doesn't get the lucky leech assists that Benn gets.

Seguin is such a bust. Is it too late to nullify the trade with Boston?

I feel bad for Housley, because the last GM actively tanked hard for Connor McDavid and Ekblad, and got Eichel and Reinhart instead. They sold off all their halfway decent players for picks and prospects, but whiffed on almost all of them, and have already traded or waived a bunch of their first rounders.

They made a great pick this last draft (Middlestadt), but man... talk about inheriting an empty cupboard.

Getting thru games is painful. They’ll get another good pick this year, and give it another try, sell off, try to sign some stability. Hire Dave Tippett.

No *head* coaching experience

A native of South St. Paul, Minnesota, Housley began his coaching career in 2004 as head coach of Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota. During his nine seasons at the helm, Housley turned around the school's program while also accepting numerous opportunities to coach for Team USA at the international level.

Throughout his time with USA Hockey, Housley has served as an assistant coach at two IIHF World Junior Championships and three IIHF World Championships. Most notably, he served as the head coach when Team USA won the gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. He was also an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Atta boy!

Different situations, of course, but Housley had the same amount of NHL head coaching experience that Hitch had when Bob Gainey hired him to coach the 11-19-9 Stars 22 years ago this month.

Housley may end up being a good head coach, but I was commenting on the trend of hiring former players directly into head coaching roles with limited experience and how that seems to be working out for Arizona, Florida, the Islanders, etc. And as you've pointed out, Housley does seem to have more experience than the others.
