I thought your momentum had to continue in the forward direction at least slightly for it to count. He is clearly going exactly sideways when he scores.

The puck continues to move slightly towards the goal line.

So, it isn't the skater's momentum that matters, it is the puck's?

I always thought it was the puck had to keep moving forward, or at least not backwards. Although that would mean toe drags shouldn't be allowed on shootouts.

The goal in question here seems fine to me. Certainly more acceptable than the spin-o-rama, which they allow.

So despite the legality of the goal debate, I mostly thought it was impressive he even thought to try and flip it over the goalie. I don't think that was a planned move, but more that he ran himself out of space but then thought to try flipping it over. That's what I found impressive.

Still not as good as Radulov's "distract the goalie with a planned fall then sneak it in" move.

That move pretty much confirmed that Radulov is totally hammered every game.

Yeah, the rule is never enforced literally because no one wants routine stick handling to kill shootout chances.

I really hope that the new Seattle team uses the old 1917 jerseys from their Cup-winning Metropolitans team:

Vegas now 15-1 at home, with only the Stars able to solve them. I bet it's because they were the only team to take their dads.

I don't think it has a lot to do with the home team. It has to do with every visiting team partying their ass off, because Vegas.

Kind of interesting note regarding the NHL standings as of this morning:

1 Tampa - missed playoffs last year
2 Vegas - expansion team
3 Nashville - Stanley Cup runner up as 2nd wild card
4 New Jersey - tied for 3rd fewest points last year, picked 1st overall
5 - LA - missed playoffs last year

And Jim Nill tells us the goal the rest of the way is to win one additional game per month.

Well, if the Stars had won one additional game in each of October, November and December, they would be tied with LA with the same number of games played.

Maybe the NHL should try some other franchises?

In the second period, this ended up counting as Kadri's first goal in 13 games:

I've always disliked Jumboner Joe, and even though this beard ripping thing is funny,
Kadri is such a little *goddess*.
