Nichushkin is a big bag of meh. But, still better than Ritchie.

Kovalchuk might be okay to pursue. His age is an issue, though. What if he craps out like Spezza?

No Val, no playoffs. History don't lie.

Since the early guesses seem like Hitchcock is going to return, they might as well just give up on next season already.
If they buyout Spezza he's going to have a good season elsewhere.
Pointless to add veterans (say Vanek or even Kovalchuk) who do good on the PP and give them high percentage of offense zone starts at even strength, which Hitchcock won't do that.
No it's better to put out players who can't pass a puck for offense zone starts or dump the puck in when you already have possession of the puck in hopes you can get the puck back. Wouldn't want to enter the other team's zone with the puck consistently, would create more scoring chances.
Sit back and wait for the other team to make mistakes, so any team with speed does good against the Stars. How does that help out in a league that's built on speed, skill, passing, puck possession, playing younger players?
There is no reason why this team should have missed the playoffs.
Nothing but consistent underachieving, terrible coaching and complete organization failures when it comes to developing players.
Ruff's coaching made it seem like all the players were awful defensively, Hitchcock's coaching fixed the team's defense to some extent. The team's offense is much better then it showed this season they were hindered by Hitchcock's coaching.

I agree totally. I was skeptical about the Hitchcock hiring last summer and am extremely annoyed that anyone wants to bring him back.

In the 2015 first round this bunch of numb skulls drafted Denis Guryanov ahead of Matt Barzal and Brock Boeser. Nill and his scouting staff, that he took from Detroit are inept.

Sean Shapiro made a good point - sometimes, if Central Scouting, hockey writers, THN, and everyone else are high on a certain player, that may be a sign not to pass on him for some unknown Russian.

Ya, there’s the secondary scoring problem.
