Hopefully it would mean a re-evaluation of NIll as a GM. He's done plenty of good, but he's also not the wizard or player development master that so many seem to praise him for being.

Nill's best moves were all related to using tons of cap room to add players most other teams couldn't afford.

And with a pretty scary lineup.

The prospect cupboard is pretty much completely empty as well, apart from Heiskanen.

I guess it would be time to start looking at Nill's job....

I'm pretty sure they will take Nill back in Detroit. I hear fire Holland all the time. But the real prize for Detroit would be getting Stevie Y back.

Except Stevie Y may be the best GM in the NHL at the moment, and his team is easily the best in the NHL (and has been consistently for a while, excusing last year's aberration). I see no reason he would move.

Oh, he will move, but it will be to Toronto or New York when they come calling with obscene offers. It won't be Montreal because he's not French Canadian.

We've got two top-notch goalie prospects in college, and Jason Robertson is tearing the OHL a new one.

Campbell was a top notch goalie prospect. And Steve Ott tore up the junior leagues. I'll believe it when I see it with any of those guys.

Campbell's the heir apparent to Jonathan Quick, so I'd still say he was a pretty good prospect.

Ott was Spezza's winger in juniors. Robertson has no one. He's responsible for something like 50% of his shitty team's points. So... big difference.

Roope Hintz looks like he'll be a playa. I thought he might even make the team this season.

Speaking of drafting, I think Gurianov finally scored a goal in the AHL. Meanwhile:

Yeah, that really pissed me off when Barzal OR Connor landed in our laps, and we reached for Gury instead.

But then Boston missed out on both those same guys with the next three picks in a row, so... I don't feel so bad.

Of the 11 guys taken ahead of Gurianov, all but one are now every day NHL players. Keep that in mind when thinking about how long it takes high end draft picks to reach the NHL in today's cap-restricted NHL. These guys are all 20 years old, and almost all of them are NHLers today. But I shouldn't compare Guianov to guys taken ahead of him.

What's especially disheartening isn't just missing out on a stud like Barzal. It's looking at all of the guys taken after him. There are 14 guys drafted after Gurianov who are full-time NHLers. There are 32 of them who have played more NHL games than Gurianov. Having first round picks like Nichushkin and Gurianov become busts hurts a lot because that's where you find your top six forwards and top four d-men. Having two high picks turn into turds is why Nill had to go to free agency to find expensive veteran players to fill out his forward ranks.

I was wondering if they were going to do that. That's awesome to hear.

Oddly, he wasn't even there during the first season. I remember a woman calling some of the games but can't remember if she did all of them.

I was also hoping they'd use the old goal siren from before the horn. I asked via e-mail but never got a response.

I have that goal siren on a cassette tape that Ty sent me years ago. I always thought it sounded cool.

I was wondering how Bishop was after that puck to the head. Not so good.

I'm starting to wonder if Methot is going to play this year as well.

As long as he's back by the trade deadline, then it'll be like we added him.

Also, obligatory 'that Hanzal is so hurt right now' post.

I didn't realize we were first in the league in that stat. It really doesn't "feel" like it, but apparently everyone else must really suck or something?
