He's too busy hacking election systems to practice with the team.

Goal against thirty seconds in must mean a first shot goal. Who's in net?

So Wonko and I got out to see this one in person, along with almost 2,000 other Cowboys haters.

First off, the bad. Our first line was awful. Outscored 3-0, and constantly in their own zone. Seguin and Benn looked like they were maybe skating at 60%, rarely giving a *poo poo*. Radulov skated around a lot, but accomplished absolutely nothing until 7 minutes left in the third, when Hitch put him on the Hintz line and he immediately drew a penalty (which the Stars then squandered).

Klingberg looked like ass. He was directly responsible for at least two of the goals against, and had nothing in the o-zone other than a few long-distance, unscreened shots into the Avs goalie's chest. Lindell was ok.

Bishop looked really calm... sometimes too calm, especially on the first shot of the game. But overall he made some really nice saves, especially in tight, bailing out Klingberg in particular on a number of occasions.

Now, the good: The Hintz-Shore-Ritchie line was fantastic all night. They constantly drove the puck forward, and planted it in the Avs zone for long, long stretches. In the second period, they were basically a shooting gallery on Bernier. Hintz really seemed to play well without the puck, knowing where it was going to end up, and won a lot of battles along the boards. Shore drew two calls by blowing past guys, and Ritchie scored on a nice Shore rebound for our first goal. Late in the game Ritchie went up with Benn and Seguin and didn't do much, and Radulov came down to the Hintz line and looked fast. Really hope Hitch keeps Hintz up instead of going with Flynn or Pitlick.

Honka was the best player on the ice. I think he created like ten scoring chances or something, and scored a really nice goal, dekeing out two guys, waltzing into the middle of the ice and just rifling it past Bernier for the second goal. He had some turnovers early, but after that he was like Early Klingberg out there.

Oleksiak actually did look really good too, winning battles, being physical, generating offense. Johns looked good too. Nemeth was solid on D, but whiffed on a prime scoring chance all alone in the first.

Gemel Smith was excellent in his small amount of ice time, creating chaos in the o-zone and killing penalties. Gurianov was a no-show. Elie had some moments. Wonko and I both agreed, tho, that the single worst player on the ice was RJ Umberger. He single-handedly fucked up two 3-on-2 breaks (neither amounted to a scoring chance or shot), and was totally muscled off the puck in the crease by a guy who weighs 153 pounds, for the eventual game-winner. In fact, he just totally stopped on the play entirely for no apparent reason, even tho the scorer (Kerfoot) had the puck on his forehand three feet from a gaping net. Umberger was just awful. But he's a "vet", so he'll probably stay on while Hintz goes back down to the AHL.

Yeah, right. Next thing you know, you’ll be telling us Mark Fistric was a great defenseman and Cam Fowler is a worthless spare.

Fistric is saving real human lives. Fowler isn't even half as good as the guy we drafted in the 5th round of the same draft.

By the way, I think someone's been *fargin'* with the banners in the rafters. We had to look up whatever a "Campbell Bowl winner" was... and it seemed like someone added a "Regular Season" at the end of the President's Trophy Winner banners. Has it always been that way? Am I just going senile and *poo poo*?

It actually takes Benn and Seguin to about the 3rd regular season game before they get going, if memory serves. Until then we're always like "What is wrong with Benn and Seguin?"

Yeah, the D roster is still undetermined. I guess it's a good problem to have, but it'll be too bad if Julie ends up in the AHL just because he can be.

While I enjoy having many team articles on the Stars' site, Burnside is a little too cutesy. I much prefer Mark's "just the facts, m'ame" style.

It's only a good problem to have everyone playing really well. Last year, Ruff was stuck trying to pick the least stinky turds. I can't tell where Hitch is with this group. Seems like the only defenders he's praised are Oleksiak and Honka.

Johns, Hamhuis & even Pateryn have also been praised. Of course it could just be those cutesy articles I'm reading. :)

Nemeth seems to be the odd man out. So Pateryn or Honka for seven. Julie going down in that case. Or we could trade Hamhuis or Johns (that's my estimation).

That highlight reel doesn't do Honka's goal any justice.

They say if you don't notice a young defenseman then it means they're playing well, so Heiskanen has been excellent tonight.

Well, it would be safer to assume he'll start in the AHL. We have to make room for Hamhuis, so I'll bet Honka is sent down. Which is stupid.
