Interesting. The guy was my secret last round fantasy hockey pick like a decade ago. He was money in the bank for 20 goals and 40-50 points. If he has anything left in the tank, I'd take that on the lower lines over Mckenzie or Cracknell.

Tells you what Nill and/or Hitch think of the 4th line depth.

Cracknell performed pretty well last year. Would Umberger really do any better?

Cracknell > Umberger
Gemel > Umberger
Dickinson > Umberger
McKenzie > Umberger

Yeah those guys are probably all better goaltenders than Umberger and Kari. But what about forward? Didn't Hitch coach Umberger in Philly and/or Columbus? He must value his LEADURSHUP.

I'm real high on this guy.

Red Line Report, an independent scouting service, called Robertson the most underrated prospect in the draft and had him ranked ninth overall.

"Has all the tools, including a great combination of strength and super soft hands," Red Line said in its 2017 Draft Guide. "His offensive numbers were hampered by the lack of a quality playmaking center on the worst offensive team in the OHL, yet he was able to create chances for himself and score 42 goals."

Other independent scouting services had the 6-2, 192-pound left wing projected to go anywhere from late in the first round to early in the second. The Stars had him going on day one of the draft..

Jason Robertson: "I've never been to Texas, but I like the Cowboys." Good answer, Jason.

"Everything up front is on twosomes, not threesomes," Hitchcock said Saturday. "I don't even have a clue linewise. But I like some twosomes. I like [Tyler] Seguin and [Jamie] Benn playing together, I like [Radek] Faksa and [Martin] Hanzal playing together. I like [Mattias] Janmark and [Jason] Spezza together. I like the twosomes and then see what threesomes fit."

"Their energy and enthusiasm to build a team, that's what impressed me," Hitchcock said. "The players that are coming back, they've talked about making amends for last year (when the Stars did not make the Stanley Cup Playoffs). They talk about wanting to build something special, and they talk about putting in the work. Now we get to start doing it."

A line with Faksa and Hanzal on it would basically be the ultimate shutdown line.

I operate the same way with regard to twosomes and threesomes.

Burnside: Five burning questions as Stars get set for training camp

"I don't care if we carry 12 defensemen," Hitchcock said. "I just know that if those six are going those six are playing. We're not having tryouts, we're not having tryouts in the middle of the season. If we're happy with the six, then you've got to wait your turn. And when it's your turn then you've got to go."

"The one thing we have going is it seems like a lot of our defined defenders are on the left side. I don't want to dismiss how good Lindell was last year. He's a top minute guy. He can absorb a lot of minutes. He's a real horse," Hitchcock said of the left-handed shot Lindell.

His ability to handle the puck -- he is one of the best in the league --- will also be a boon to Stars defenders, and should help the transition game in a way the team has not seen in many years.

Hitchcock is such a good ambassador and explainer of the game. After he fails and we fire him, he should stick around as a commentator or something.

Also interesting to find out we were lied to about his injury. It was first talked up as an elbow to the mouth requiring stitches. Then he missed games. This is the first time the word concussion was used.

Better to let him heal fully now. Not to mention we have too many defensemen already.

I think Nill hired Jeff Gillooly to give Heiskanen a concussion and thus make it easier for Nill to avoid making roster decisions on his plethora of d-men.

So glad I took that remove concussion spell. Cantrips sometimes seem like a waste of time until the perfect situation arises.
