Watch the Stars give him 10 minutes a night and bench him for anything other than dump and chase.

Then, he will go to Pittsburgh and become the next Lidstrom and we will get another draft pick so we can develop another future Pittsburgh defenseman.

Let's hope the Stars sort their development issues out before this kid comes over so they don't screw him up.

The first thing would be, not to completely try and change how he plays, like they've did with Honka.
Johns use to skate the puck up the ice, he was really good at that, so he doesn't do that anymore.
If the team finally focuses on puck possession has one of Klingberg, Honka and Heiskanen on each pair, this team will be so much better. They'll be moving the puck out of their own zone so much better, then being ability to create more scoring chances. Spending even less time in their own zone.

At the World Championships, Finland's D core probably will have all three of Lindell, Honka and Heiskanen. Assuming no injuries prevent that.

Yeah, yeah, that's good, but can he rim it around the boards for Elie to chase after? That's all that matters.

He's primed to have a good season or three for the Texas Stars.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Yes, and when he is called up he should perform well up in the press box.

And after enough time on the bench and in the press box he will be traded to the Pens, where he will help them 4-peat.

Heiskanen stats breakdown

His point totals could have been even better. Miro’s IFK teammates only shot 4% with him on the ice. Bump that up a little and the assists will be racked up quickly.

IFK was solid at generating shots and goals without Heiskanen on the ice. They were dominant with him on the ice though.

Finnish teams don’t score against him, but they allow goals.
Teams just don’t get shots against IFK with Miro on the ice.

The rate stats look stupid for an 18 year old playing against grown men. They would look great for anyone, but an 18 year old performing the way he did is simply unfair. This was an NHL talent playing in Europe, and he’s going to look so good in North America in just a few months.

See all those deep blue blobs? That's Heikanen being way above the curve on actual defense:

Note that he also doesn't take very many prayer shots from the blue line, instead opting to bring it closer to the dots before shooting.

I actually really tried to read all of those charts, but they are just essentially meaningless to me. But whatever - Heiskanen is good at the hockey. Hopefully, the Stars won't ruin him.

He looks like a gamer. Maybe his arrival will help the team and quiet this free Honka nonsense.

Just a reminder as we go forward that we passed on Erik Karlsson to keep Heiskanen.

We’re gonna see turnovers, but we’re going to live with those turnovers so he can get to a comfort level where he can help the Dallas Stars be a better hockey team. The goal with him is to having him play his best hockey post-Christmas, and getting him consistently good at it in the NHL.

That's stupid. We need to have him consistently good in the AHL for at least 7 years before we even think of calling him up.

Athletic: Excited to coach Miro Heiskanen?

Montgomery: (laughs) I can’t wait. I’m not gonna hold back on this one (laughs more).

This kid better be at the TC tourney this year. Twice last year I tried to see him play. And he better dominate.

I think Heiskanen has a good shot at being a top 4 defenseman.

Yes. He will be a great partner for Oleksiak on the 2nd pairing in Pittsburgh when we trade him for a 4th round pick in 2030.

I'll go a step forward and say he has the potential to be a top 150 defenseman in the NHL.
