I wouldn't think so. It's this weekend/next week. TC tourney, which Miro is supposed to attend, is 9/08 - 09/12 and Dallas Stars training camp would be after that. Not all Euros attend TC. And I don't know when his Euro team needs him back, which is where he is purported to go if he doesn't make the team.

It could be that he didn't make the roster for Finland. That doesn't seem likely. This is a high end talent tourney for this age group. It's to see more of the players who are possibilities for the World Jr. tourney at the end of the year.

So maybe he's hurt? I don't know.

Oops, Tourney is in Plymouth, not Ann Arbor. Which I know. USHL used to be in Ann Arbor.

This Article from dallas stars site makes no mention of Heiskanen.

https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/net-gain/c-290532304

Four Stars prospects are scheduled to take part in the 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase, which opens Friday in Plymouth, Michigan.

Teams from the USA, Canada, Finland, and Sweden are taking part in the event which begins the process of selecting rosters for the 2018 World Junior Championship in Buffalo.

Dallas prospects at the WJSS are forward Riley Tufte (USA), goaltender Jake Oettinger (USA), forward Jason Robertson (USA), and forward Fredrik Karlstrom (Sweden).

The NHL Network will carry games for the final three days at the World Junior Summer Showcase beginning on August 2.

I wish it was in A2. I'd love to go see it.

Interview with Heiskanen

HIFK's coach Ari Pekka Selin on Heiskanen.

HIFK coach Ari Pekka Selin "Heiskanen is the defender that Finland has lacked the last ten-twenty years".
Ari Pekka Selin "It was so surprising because Heiskanen came up so quick last season. He is born ‘99 and sometimes its tough to remember that he is only 18 years old. He is not a normal Finnish defender, he is more in the Niklas Lidström mold. He is a smart, puck moving defender that never sets his skate wrong. He has a great future that’s for sure, I am certain of it.”

Coach Selin cannot point to any real weakness when it comes to Miro Heiskanen's game. “His conditioning is great now, he just has to bulk up a few more kilos and he will be set for the NHL.”

Ok fine. He's the Finnish Lidstrom. Put 'em on the roster and let's win. Let Klingberg be his Sydor or something. Ill take that.

He's just 18 years old and being compared to Lidstrom is some high praise. Even if he doesn't turn out to be Lindstrom, he's gonna be very good.

And he won't make the roster until 2022 because Nill will still be carrying 10 spares he can't trade and is afraid to expose to waivers.

I keep reading Lidstrom comparisons, but he really reminds me of Keith. Smooth skating, calm, positionally sound, and just all-around awesome.

I hope he's at least half that good at the NHL level. If he is, that's a home run of a draft pick.

Keith isn't as good as Lidstrom, but those are all qualities I would attribute to Lidstrom too. I'd certainly settle for him being as good as Keith.

Stars mailbag
Heiskanen/Honka/Klingberg

Of that group of defensemen Miro Heiskanen clearly has the highest defensive IQ. He’s only a teenager and he already does the little things that you expect from NHL veteran defensemen — if you get a chance, watch one of his games all the way through and you’ll be impressed with his attention to detail.

Honka is the best skater of the group, while he also may have the best shot.

You can define vision a couple different ways, but I would argue Honka is the most creative with the puck and will ultimately be the best playmaker in the group of defenders. Heiskanen also has good vision and he’s Nick Lidstrom-like with his puck movement in all three zones (please note this is a style comparison, not a career expectation for Heiskanen).
