Is that list supposed to indicate we are small on defense? I don't get it.

What if this team still gets lit up, and it was never Kari's fault and just our shitty D?

I think there's a distinct possibility of that happening.

Kari is responsible for his mental breakdowns in the playoffs.

Really? Or is it not the fault of a society that puts too much pressure on goaltenders?

Stars mailbag

What is the reasoning for Miro playing in Finland this season?

Miro Heiskanen is playing in Finland next season because that’s where the Stars want him to play, it’s a bad answer but that’s the truth.

I asked Jim Nill about it and he said he’s comfortable with Heiskanen in Finland for another season before coming over to North America. Personally I would have him play in the AHL right away, Julius Honka went through a similar path and I think we are going to see the positive results of that this coming season.

Yep. No matter how well he plays, he's going back home because Nill never expected to draft him when Nill clogged up the roster with D last season.

Watching him play reminds me of Duncan Keith. Extremely smooth skating, and he just looks effortless transitioning from defense to offense.

Heiskanen.

"We're excited for Miro," Dallas general manager Jim Nill said. "He's a player our scouts have watched all year. He's what you're looking for in a prototype defenseman nowadays. He can skate, he moves the puck, he's a guy that's never under pressure. The game looks awful easy to him."

Robertson on Heiskanen
"He's a very skilled guy, not only on defense, but when I was on defense and how he handled the puck," Robertson said. "I was shocked at how good he handled the puck and how well he skated."

The Finnish hockey season starts in September and ends in mid March, so it's possible for him to play over there and come over late. I'm not sure exactly how exhausting that would be, although they play about 25% fewer games than the NHL does.

On Prospects in college and Europe being eligible for the Olympics.
They’ll be eligible. Personally I wonder if Miro Heiskanen will have a chance of making the Finnish team at the Olympics, that could be a nice showcase for the Stars top prospect.

World Juniors
Ideally you could have three Stars on the American roster with Riley Tufte, Jason Robertson, and Jake Oettinger.

Oettinger seems like the best lock to me for the American roster, while Tufte has a good chance and likely would have been on the team last year if not for the broken wrist.

Miro Heiskanen should be on the Finnish roster.

Looks like Miro is not going to attend the World Junior Summer Showcase tournament in Ann Arbor, MI. He's not on the Finnish roster. Wonder why?

Gonna try to catch some of this. Stars still have 4 other players attending. Oettinger, Jason Robertson, Reily Tufte and Fredrik Karlstrom. But pretty disappointed that Heiskanen is not going to be there.

Also, happened to note that Toby Peterson is one of the US assistant coaches.

Would participating in that tourney conflict with full participation in the Stars training camp?
