"Everything is new to him," said Stars coach Jim Montgomery. "We expect him to be an important part of our team. We expect to bring him along slowly, allowing him to play and play the way he needs to play in order to have success because, ultimately, that is going to make the Dallas Stars better. So, we are going to live with mistakes, and he is going to get thrown back out there. We're going to try to make sure he is put in situations to have success early and as he shows the ability to have success we're going to give him more and more."

"We would like him to be with a veteran player like a (Stephen) Johns, someone that has been in the league, or a (Marc) Methot," Montgomery said. "Also, as he gains confidence and so does (Julius) Honka maybe they become a pair that can play together. That's something maybe later in the year."

Lots of Bobby Orr in his game for sure.

Is it too late to still trade him for Chris Tanev?

We should trade him for Tyler Seguin.

Didn’t Val dominate against prospect tournament spares, too?

Yes.

Hence the meh.

I have my arms crossed right now still and I'm sort of half paying attention here.

Let's see if I uncross them.

Yeah, he had three goals and no assists in four games. He finished tied for 17th in tournament scoring.

"He helps me. Gives me little tips. Shows me video. I like him a lot," Heiskanen said of Montgomery. "They want me to get a little bit stronger. That's the thing we're working on."

"I'm really careful in this regard," Button said, "but he has a style and comportment that Nicklas Lidstrom had. He takes you off the puck. You don't even realize you don't have it anymore. He's like a surgeon where you don't even feel the cut of the scalpel. There's never going to be another Nicklas Lidstrom. But he's Lidstrom-esque."

He's no Jeff Woywitka, though...

He could be Lidstrom-esque once he has matured some.

He reminds me of a perfect blend of Bobby Orr and Sergei Zubov.

The best thing about him is there are no awesome Norris-contender Finnish defensemen to compare him to, so he’s going to confound broadcasters for years to come.

I think he's more like if Athena and Mario Lemiuex had a baby with all the hockey talent of Lemiuex, but also godlike strength and speed.
