Stars upgrade Russian RW depth with Radulov

Postby Troy McClure » Mon Jul 03, 2017 11:13 am

Radulov will get over $6 million a season for five seasons.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Between Radulov, Val, and Gurianov, our right-wing has never been so dominated by Russians.

The last couple of years may be a cap issue, but I don't think it's really that far off for a legit top-line winger. I was really hoping the Stars wouldn't go for 6 or 7 years, so I'm glad about that.

I'm actually surprised. I thought the rumors were overblown. But pleased, of course.

I love this because so many of my favorite players over the years have been Russians. I'm going to get a Radulov jersey.

"All of us have been around people who have that energy and it's contagious, that upbeat, positive attitude," said Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber, who has known Radulov longer than anyone on the team from playing with him with the Nashville Predators. "I think guys feed off that.

"It's not an act. It's just who he is."

I'm confused. I thought Radulov had behavioral and work ethic issues with the Preds and that is part of why he bolted for Russia.

Good job, Jamie Benn. His amazing interpersonal charisma works again.

I think all the sluts on Seguin's Instagram is probably more what sold him.

The best part about this signing is how butthurt all the Habs fans are.

It's probably a great sign when the team that had him is super pissed they couldn't get him back.

It shows character that he stuck with Dallas even after the Habs matched the over. The Stars are clearly the better team and in a much better position to compete in the playoffs.

The Habs didn't match. For Radulov to pocket the same cash after taxes, the Habs would've had to pay him $8m/year.

He would have been paid in USD to live in Canada. That alone makes it pretty even.

Definitely will be a upgrade to the even strength scoring. Radulov is very strong on the puck, his game isn't built on speed.
Stars have lots of options, can load up Benn-Seguin-Radulov or put Radulov with Spezza. Stars have the talent to run two powerplay units.
Here was Radulov's advanced stats.

I'm sure he wasn't planning on living in Canada after this contract ...

Now, Radulov wasn’t cheap for Dallas – he will carry roughly the same cap hit as Marleau – but Radulov here looks like a star forward playing exceptional hockey. To me, this is the type of guy who you add to put you over the top. Maybe Toronto had no interest in Radulov, or vice versa. But head-to-head against Marleau, he’s a better scorer, his team’s better when he’s on the ice from a goal perspective, and his team’s better when he’s on the ice from a shot perspective.

On Radulov
Both on and off the ice he’s one of the hardest working players, which tends to rub off on his in teammates. He also brings a “fun energy” to the rink — it’s obvious Radulov loves being on the ice, and his teammates have taken notice.

“Not only in practice, but in games too,” Pateryn said. “When you’re on the ice with him he’s flying out there. Offensive zone, defensive zone, he wants the puck and he wants to take the game over. That’s something that’s contagious when you see somebody working hard out there. You pick it up a little bit and I think everyone picks it up, even the guys on the bench get going more.
