Duchene too I guess but everyone stopped talking about that guy.

I really wouldn't mind Phaneuf if the Senators retained some salary.

Phanuef is basically Matvichuk at this point, except way more expensive. Pass.

Alzner on the Stars radar, but Brendan Smith isn't as of now according to Sturm.
On the graph higher is better, lower is worse.

Brendan Smith seems like this year's Anton Stralman signing - high impact, reasonable cost, great value.

Hopefully Alzner signs with Chicago. He's terrible defending around his own net.

Bruins have no one left from the Seguin trade, if they don't re-sign Morrow.

I love Justin Williams. He would be our new Mike Keane.

The first year of Sharp was pretty good.

Unless a trade materializes, the team's defensive lineup looks set, Nill said.

When free agency opens on July 1, there are a couple of forward positions, especially on the wing, for Nill to explore. But as of Monday night, much of the box-checking has been completed and well ahead of schedule.

Alzner very interested in Montreal

11. Goalie market: there is a lot of expectation of Ryan Miller to Anaheim for approximately $1 million, although I’m not sure if bonuses will be added to that. It makes a lot of sense. Winnipeg has Eric Comrie in the AHL, but the Jets are looking for a veteran to pair with Connor Hellebuyck — which indicates Brian Elliott or Steve Mason. Los Angeles appears ready to have Jack Campbell as Jonathan Quick’s backup. And I think Mike Condon’s received a few calls, as teams weren’t sure he’d be available.

Jordan Weal’s going to get a chance to prove he can be this year’s Jonathan Marchessault.
On the blue line: the Rangers and Brendan Smith appear headed towards a deal

Why wouldn't the Stars be interested in Shattenkirk? He would instantly be better than any defenseman we've had since Zubov.

Agreed, but just like every time the biggest UFA name is talked about leading up to the off season, they end up with the Rangers LOL.

Does anyone know if Shat and Hitch even got along?

Shattenkirk is pure offense, he's a liability defensively in the playoffs. Why pay huge money for 5-7 years for that?

I don't know how Shattenkirk felt about playing for Hitch but I can't imagine that Hitch could've liked the way Shattenkirk tries to play defense.

Add in a long-term commitment at or around $7 million per year that will likely be required to sign him and that should answer any questions about the Stars' level of interest in him.

I wouldn't mind either Marleau or Thornton.

I wonder who will get Kovalchuk. Isn't he kind of what we need anyway?

Well obviously we're going to get Ovechkin, but Kovalchuk can come too I guess.

Kovalchuk will fit nicely on the second line with Spezza and Radulov.

Two that seem close — if not done — are Trevor Daley (Detroit) and Dan Girardi (Tampa Bay).

The Rangers are determined to be modest, which takes them out of the Kevin Shattenkirk race unless something really changes. Buffalo is believed to be a serious suitor. There was some talk Dallas might try a short-term deal, but not sure where that stands after Marc Methot’s arrival.
