I know the Hurricanes only acquired his rights and that he's still an impending UFA, but that is never a good sign.
I am so sick and tired of watching viable and team improving goaltender options pass us by while we sit around with two Finns up our asses tugging our balls from within.

A 3rd rounder seems kinda high just for Darling's rights. Didn't Goligoski command like a 6th or something?

It's very well he was a product of Chicago's defensive system (for the regular season), like how pretty much any goalie has success with the Kings, etc

Bishop is fine on a short-term deal The best part about Bishop is, he's great in the playoffs, but the injury problems. He'd need a strong backup.

Who else is out there?
Free Agents
Elliott- regular season goalie, weak in the playoffs.
Ryan Miller -
Steve Mason - History with Hitchcock in Columbus, and goalie coach Reece with Flyers
Jonathan Bernier
Kinkaid- Could be a sleeper option

Trade Market
Fleury- Expensive, history of concussions, poor playoff performances
Grubauer Capitals - Some have said he has the potential to be a great goalie
Korpisalo Columbus

Oh god please not Mason.
Even with that crazy win streak the Flyers were the only other team with goaltender stats as shitty as the Stars.

If we could get just marginally better goaltending we could have won more games last season. Lots of close games, especially early in the season. So why bog the team down with yet another high priced 30+ year old goalie? I'd be willing to gamble on Mason, Miller or even Pavelec, short term. It's a tough decision. Overpay for Bishop or gamble? Or maybe there's a better goalie out there for trade. Detroit would like to unload one of Mazarek or Howard. Not that either is too appealing. Schneider and his contract might be worth it, or might not. Even if he's available, it's a tough trade. I don't envy Nill.

There's so many quality, 20-something UFA and RFA options that it really doesn't make any sense to give up a #3 pick in order to get someone.

Not sure to whom you refer. UFA under 30 (and not by much), Bernier, Mason, Pavelec, Kuemper. RFA, good ones will be resigned. I only see Hellebuyck, Grubauer and Lehner as RFA with actual NHL experience.

Not that I want to trade our 3rd round pick, no sir! I'd rather roll with whoever of those UFAs are available after the Vegas expansion.

Darling is UFA and hasn't signed anywhere yet (nor should he... he ought to test the market). The Caps will lose Grubuar for nothing to Vegas unless they trade him, and same with Raanta. I'm still high on Bishop, who had a bad year (along with his entire team) but was a top-two Vezina candidate the year before.

Hard pass on Pavelec, Mason, Miller.

The only way I'd trade for Schnieder is if we traded the #3 for someone else's later pick + more picks, then packaged some of that (and maybe the #1 we get from Anaheim) to NJ for Schneider. He was "worth" a #8 (which turned into Bo Horvat) when he was young and bright and promising, he's not worth more than that now.

I would adore Darling, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Seems like we have two options, overpay Bishop, if he wants to be a Dallas Star, or roll with the best so so goalie that can be had for cheap. It's possible a team trades a goalie they can not protect, but that's just too complicated for my brain. I'm not high on Bishop, but if they are and he wants to sign, OK.

The New York Islanders are likely to offer John Tavares an eight-year deal worth approximately $10 million annually, should he decide a long-term contract with the team, per Arthur Staple of Newsday.

Oh, he wants a Cup? Well, no team closer to that goal than the Dallas Stars. obviously. Especially since they're resting up this postseason.

What player goes to a team or hits free agency and says they don't want a Cup? He'll go wherever pays him and the Devils are allowed to move him to.

He obviously interests me, as he should, but I really don't see what assets we'd be able to provide New Jersey if it does indeed end up being a sign-and-trade scenario. I sure as hell don't want to give up our 3rd magic bean for him.

Will he get a big return? He's 34 and was pretty crappy his last season in the NHL. He put up some good numbers in the KHL, but is he as fast as he was? I have no idea what it would take to get him.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.
