I can't listen. Let me know how he bags on the current players when he talks about how Hitch will make them try.

I assume it was just 15 minutes of "zzzz....." while drool ran out of his wide open mouth.

It's sad that Hitch had to "make" Modano try. Clearly, Modano only tried when Hitch forced him to. When Tippett didn't do that, Modano went back to taking half the season off. Except, by then, he was too old to get by on his talent.

I wonder what Hitch is going to have to say about Benn's maintenance months?

I wonder if Hitch will put an end to the many elective offseason hip surgeries the Stars keep doing. I'm thinking having all of your best players unable to do leg exercises all summer wasn't good for the team.

That's almost unheard of for a new (old) coach coming in. Wonder if this illustrates some disagreement in the organization? Gaglardi/Lites have history with Hitchcock - maybe Nill isn't quite as sold.

My theory is that they got him to teach some of our very talented players to actually be cognizant of defense and how to sacrifice personal stats for team success.

They'll do that for awhile, then take the yoke off, and the Stars will explode. Winning 11 Stanley Cups in a row.

I really don't see how anyone could dispute this theory.

The good gnus is that no matter how boring the Stars get, they will never be as boring as this iteration of the New York Rangers.

I was thinking tonight... so Hitchcock was probably someone they wanted as a coach for a few months now. It seems like it would have made sense to get him hired here and start getting his system implemented. Maybe the assistant coaches would have been a problem.

Especially since his system will only be implemented for one season max before he fucks off into the sunset like an eclipse.

If this franchise was a person it'd be Andy Dick.

It would also have given Hitch the chance to evaluate the d-men to see if he likes any of them.

I hope nobody demands a trade. I remember Dave Gagner demanding a trade because he hated Hitch so much.

Edit: Unless it's a goalie.

Stars owner Tom Gaglardi wanted to hire Hitchcock seven years ago. But the sale of the team from Tom Hicks was still in the works, Gaglardi didn't quite own the team and he could not convince GM Joe Nieuwendyk to make the move. Nieuwendyk hired Glen Gulutzan, now leading the Calgary Flames into the playoffs.

Newy was right about Gulutzan, who's doing a bang-up job in Calgary this year. Dallas was basically his AAA team.

So in the past year, the Ducks re-hired Carlyle, the Canadiens rehired Julien, the Stars rehired Hitchcock, and now there's rumors the Sabres might rehire Ruff.

Good god NHL GMs suck so much ass.

Why would the Sabres rehire Ruff? That makes even less sense than Hitch coming back to Dallas.

Both teams wish to return to the glory years of when they made the playoffs.

After listening to the press conference, I am slightly more enthused about this hire than before (but still not incredibly excited). I'm walking back from my previous thoughts that Nill may not have been fully on board with this move. Still think this will be a relatively short-term (2-3 year) thing.

Hitch says they beat us in the playoffs last year because they matched our energy. I hope he doesn't actually believe that.

Well, what he said was once they matched the energy level, then their systems were able to take over and that is how they won.

Agreed. He gave good answers and showed good personality. I enjoyed the fact that he knows what Razor's Emporium is.

I actually think Seguin wants to and would probably put in the work, it's just that no one did. I've heard him on BaD radio say he wanted to kill penalties and be out there in the final two minutes.

Oh I have no doubt that he wants to do the work, but Hitch's ideas on this subject go a little above and beyond it seems.
