I'm all for trading out of the first round entirely and picking up a few more Ray Sawadas.

Yeah, moving 2-3 spots back in this draft actually doesn't make a lick of difference.... unless NJ or Philly go off the board. Then #3 is the sweet spot, because you're basically getting 1st-overall talent one way or the other.

Right now, the Stars have 3 picks in the top 40. A fourth wouldn't be so bad, esp. since the guys right behind us would have pretty high 2nd rounders to offer.

What player would we go after? Is there a number one d-man we could snag?

The Dallas Stars are willing to trade the No. 3 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft if the price is right, general manager Jim Nill said Thursday.

"I have talked to other teams already about possibly moving that pick, getting an established player back," Nill told SiriusXM's NHL Network Radio. "It gives us lot of options. I think this will heat up more as we go."

"Probably a group of another 10 players, and that's when it comes down to team's personal preference," Nill said. "Are you looking for a big strong centerman? Are you looking for a scoring winger? Are you looking for a power forward? There is lot of different options there."

The type of trade that is likely is Vegas #6 pick and a defenseman Vegas takes in the expansion draft, might be from the Wild such as Brodin or Dumba to the Stars for the 3rd overall pick.

Based on my extensive knowledge of this draft, I can assert that the quality of players available at #6 is about 3 quality units lower than the quality of players available at pick #3.

If we trade down to 5-6, Cody Glass would probably be available:

Pass. I already know a Cody Glass. He's French Canadian and he has a bad back.

Elliot Friedman just said that is Nill open to trading pick for an established defenseman. That Anaheim and Minnesota could be teams. No names.

Please be Fowler. I'm willing to concede next season just to see Todd's head explode.

I don't know if the Wild would trade Brodin to the Stars, he's the perfect defense partner for Klingberg. The Wild will protect Suter and likely Spurgeon then one of Brodin/Dumba and they also have Scandella. So that leaves two defenseman available. So unless the Wild are giving up assets to Vegas, they're going to take one of Brodin or Dumba, unless the Wild trade one prior to that.

Ducks have plenty of options
Lindholm (don't think trade him). Protected
Fowler the Ducks would be smart on to sell high on, since he'll be looking for big money as a pending a free agent after 17-18 season. Probably is protected.

Vatanen (not a good fit for the Stars), likely a option to be traded.
Manson who is a very good defensively. Would be a good fit for the Stars, price would be much lower then the #3 overall pick.

What hurts the Ducks is they have Bieksa with a NMC, so he'll eat one of their defense slots, unless he waives it.

Ducks also have Montour and Theodore.

His old man's jersey number is available here unlike on his current team. But yeah, no way is he worth the #3 pick though.

Nah, just take all my old Gonchar posts and do a find-and-replace for "Sergei" -> "Cam"

We could use the 3rd overall pick to bring Tippett back:

While unlikely, it IS possible that he might fall to us at #3:

Tippett's kid look like a Swede when he has his helmet on. Does that help?
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Makar is an intriguing pick. If drafts were just based on highlight reels alone, he'd probably go first overall. But he also plays against some pretty shitty competition in some league I've never even heard of.

Still, I don't watch many 12-minute youtube highlight reels, but I watched the everliving *f-bomb* out of this one:

The top 8 guys are all forwards. We're going to have to draft one I bet.

I guess we can use the Anaheim pick for a defenseman.

I'd rather use the Anaheim pick on Oettinger, if he's still available. We need somewhat competent goaltending in the future, and now that Valley isn't around to ruin our prospects, it may be possible.

We should just draft him in the 7th round when he is still available.

What are all those weird lines all over the ice? Why are there two crease lines?
