We are not trading the third overall pick for Tanav.

I do like that Troy is pro magic bean this time, tho. :)

Only for this pick. If roster players are traded away for 3rd and 4th rounders, I'm turning the table over and storming out.

I think a 3rd overall pick is, historically, pretty good magic beans. The worst case is probably drafting Heiskanen and he turns out to be an average second-pairing guy, in which case we still end up with an average second-pairing defensemen. I would like to see Nill improve the team, but a trade for a guy like Tanev is a waste of the pick. Maybe if its Dumba or Hanifin or someone like that, it's worth it.

Shapiro mentioned the Stars were high on Makar. On NHL Network they mentioned the Devils wanted Makar, before their move up to #1 and they might trade back to get him, but they can't move back that far, or they'd lose out on him.

So who knows maybe they take Makar 1st overall.

I don't really even want the 3rd pick. If you're not 1st, you're last.

Dallas is in a win-now mode? Really? Someone should inform the men.

I'd like to hear the plan on how they expect to win now with only one top six winger on the team for sure last year.

Last year was definitely a bit of a fluke, but going from not making the playoffs to win now mode is still a stretch in my mind.

I do get moving the pick, especially if the team isn't moving down too far and feels their man will be there. If trading the pick for an "established" player it needs to be a VERY good player.

I don't know. Because they looked pretty awesome the year before that. I had the feeling that on any given night they could beat just about anyone. They just had goaltending/defensive woes.

Now? It's hard to say.

Sadly, last season they added offensive woes to the list. They went from 1st in goal scoring to 16th. From 4th in PP% to 20th. This mean's Nill challenge going into next season was to fix offense, defense, and goaltending. We hope Bishop fixes the goaltending. Only two other small things to fix.

I'd joke the only thing the team could do well was line changes, but the team was tied for 4th in bench minors...

We definitely need some offense. Benn, Seguin and Spezza. That's a nice start, but hardly enough to be considered dangerous.

McKenzie's final rankings
#3 Heiskanen
#4 Makar

Heiskanen is a 6-foot-2, 172-pound all-around defender who rocketed up the charts this season, especially after dominating at the World U-18 Championship in April. Heiskanen plays a high-level, two-way game similar to Hall of Famer Nick Lidstrom. No one is suggesting Heiskanen is the "next Nick Lidstrom," only that Heiskanen has the ability to contribute significantly to the offence but also play a stellar, positionally sound and cerebral defensive game.

Some article I read a month ago said his contract prevents him from joining the NHL next season.

Watch the Stars take someone projected to go at 13th or 14th at best.

After this year's trade deadline day and the plethora of garbage being spewn out leading up to the expansion/entry drafts, I am officially done with paying attention to and getting excited about whatever bullshit all of these hockey analysts are trying to push. 99.9% of it is false/does not happen.

It was always mentioned in June besides it's only a week since the season ended. The deals with Vegas that can't be announced, the trade freeze with (teams except with Vegas) and teams feel they can get better deals with Vegas. At the draft Thursday through weekend was always expected to be the busiest period of time.

Make all the excuses you like, but this has been a wet fart. We were promised a plethora of trades from teams terrified of losing every piece of *poo poo* 4th liner or backup goalie who was going to be exposed. We got two trades. Two *fargin'* trades.

Yeah, a handful of teams are going to trade with Vegas, but nothing has lived up to the hype.

Given the complexity of this years draft with LV, there are endless possibilities. The pundits pundificate but in reality the complexity also hinders actual movement, protected players, salary cap, the actual draft, etc. I think it's still interesting and fun. Plus with Dallas having the #3 pick, that's freaking awesome. This is the most fun hockey has been all season.
