Brendan Smith reminds me of the Stralman signing - he'll likely be buried behind massive contracts for Alzner and Shattenkirk, but probably one of the best pickups.

Why not go for Shattenkirk?

They were too busy drafting absolutely nobody worth a *poo poo*.

Except Haula.

Dreger said the price is high for Methot and the Stars are balking at the price. Good, hopefully Vegas trades him somewhere else.

I guess. The D needs an upgrade. If Nill plays this game with every available guy, it probably means nothing changes.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

I wonder if we will see someone compare what Vegas will have when they are done vs what they would have had if they simply took whatever player they wanted from each team. Compare the haul of picks/prospects versus the better players they could have drafted.

That's the biggest problem is the majority of the players best days are behind them, it's not a smart idea to pay a premium for the players decline. In free agency short-term (1-2 years), it's not that bad of a deal vs giving up assets that are better used to trade for someone younger.
At least in Brendan Smith's case you're getting some of his best seasons next few years, before a decline starts to happen.

They, appropriately, went for strategy of acquiring draft picks and making the shittiest team possible to draft and develop for future instead of making a competitive bubble team.

Coulda maybe hauled in more picks though

Agreed. There is no chance they are successful for a while, as is the case with all expansion teams. Might as well just accept the shitty seasons in the beginning and treat it as if it was a rebuild for any other team.

Yeah, when Cody Eakin is the third-best player on your roster, you're going to struggle to win 12 games.

But at least Vegas has 3 1st round picks in this "weak" draft. And they got Shea Theodore, who will probably be awesome.

They really missed out on a cool opportunity when they passed up Jagr, tho.
