I liked him for awhile, but not recently. Maybe there's someone a little better. Dunno. We do need some more scoring this year.

Sharp looks done. Some GM will throw money at him because he was great five years ago, but he's not going to be worth whatever he's paid.

We also have to increase our speed. We lost a step or 5 last season and it made a difference. And all these great teams left in the playoffs are speedy, except maybe Anaheim, they just beat you to death.

Stars mailbag
Ultimately I think Dallas holds onto the French forward and tries to move Cody Eakin via trade before the expansion draft.

The Stars believe, rightfully, they are just a couple moves and a better defensive system away from being a contender in the Western Conference.

I like Patrik Nemeth, but I don’t see how he can be part of this team next season. His relationship with the old coaching staff soured and management never stepped in to alleviate the situation.

It may be time for Nemeth and the Stars to part ways, it could be what’s best for all parties involved

Alzner keeps getting mentioned, he's one of the players to stay away from.

Seabrook is likely on the trade block. I'd be all in on that.

Seabrook is good. He's 32, but that's not especially old.

The thing is there are going to be no high quality d-men available. They very seldom get traded or hit free agency. So it's either get some overpaid vet with warts or once again roll out Nemeth, Oleksiak, etc. and hope for better results.

Depending on the price tag, I think a guy like Seabrook could be very beneficial to our youngsters.

Shattenkirk is UFA right?

I'd definitely push for Shattenkirk if he's available.

Since Shattenkirk has history with Hitchcock, whether that history is good or bad, would probably determine if the Stars would be interested in pursuing him in FA. He's definitely the best FA available and fits the Stars offensive defenseman program.

Shattenkirk is awful defensively in the playoffs.
Seabrook who is on a rapid decline and is now a below average skater. Might as well bring back Oduya if that's what you want.
Alzner's hands are weak

The expansion draft, whether it's prior to it, or after Vegas makes it's picks. That is the most likely option to get a defenseman.

If the Stars don't, then Brendan Smith would be a quality addition.

Really? I always hear Brendan Smith is a terrible skater.

You are thinking of someone else. With the limited free agent options, he's probably going to cost more then he's worth. Smith raises his game up in the playoffs.

Smith is like Nemeth with actual playing time.

Seabrook is nearly done. Too many miles, and he was never much better than Goligoski, who was serviceable but I'm glad we got rid of.

Alzner is basically just walking scab tissue.

Shattenkirk, tho.... tempting. But you know that some team like Detroit is going to throw $7 million/7 years at him or some *poo poo*.

Really, for like the 15th year in a row, there are no good UFA d-men. But there are teams like Anaheim who will need to dump a d-man or risk losing him for nothing to Vegas. I'd be on board for Theodore.

The next best thing after a retread is a legacy player, so it'll probably be Manson.

That Manson has been a hard hitting mofo in the playoffs.

That would be fitting for him to join the stars. Does Sylvain Cote have a kid? lol

I am getting the *poo poo* downvoted out of me on Reddit for suggesting that the Stars would be better off trading Eakin and the rights to Nichushkin for Eberle and a prospect / pick. Both Eakin and Nichushkin are apparently two parts of the holy trinity.

It's two things.

- There is some large percentage of Stars fans who never want to see any player traded.
- Second, there is still a population of people who think Nichushkin was awesome, think he is going to be a super star, and think Ruff screwed Val over.

Nichushkin did an interview in Russia where he talked about demanding a trade after both his first and second seasons. He HATED it in Dallas. When Nill turned down his second trade request, Nichushkin made up his mind to go back to the KHL. It's amazing the blindspot people have for him. The dude ran to Russian media two seasons in a row to whine about the Stars. Now we also know he asked to be traded twice. Why would anyone want him back?

I have come to the conclusion that the majority of Stars fans are morons. Yes. I went there.

I bet there are people out there who think that Kari is an elite goalie and only struggled because of the defense.

Curious whether Val's issues were with Ruff and the coaches or with the Dallas organization in general. Clearly if it was with Dallas in general then Nill is going to downplay anything in an attempt to get something of value out of trading his rights.

I believe we have an elite defense and once Kari is gone it will be obvious.

No wishful thinking here at all.

I think our defense is not as bad as it played. Seeing multiple mentions about how their system, or lack of one, under Patrick was just bad.

Well our defensemen sure seem to be doing fine at the highest level of international competition.
