We'll probably lose Roussel or Hamhuis. Because we must protect Eakin at all costs.

Too bad the NHL isnt gping public with thr expansion draft. I would watch the *poo poo* out of that.

I'd prefer Eakin over Roussel or Hamhuis.

I don't understand if Vegas takes 30 players, one from each team and 23 are allowed on an NHL roster, what do they do with the extras? AHL? Aren't most newbies, like Honka ineligible based on games played or newbieness? Are any of our AHL players eligible?

* All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).

So it sounds like Honka wouldn't be exempt since this is his 3rd AHL season.

From Heika. I forgot about Val!

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dallas- ... ger-losing

What players are the Stars likely to protect in the expansion draft? What players have contractual protection?

Heika: Key players who are exempt are: Devin Shore, Julius Honka and Mattias Janmark. Players who have to be protected because of contracts are Jamie Benn and Jason Spezza.

My guess is they protect Benn, Spezza, Seguin, Faksa, Ritchie, Nichushkin, Eakin, Klingberg, Lindell, Johns, Lehtonen.

I posted this in the other thread, but I'll do it here because it's actually kindof fun. It's a list of every team's roster, with little indicators if they have no-move clauses, their games remaining before they're eligible for the expansion draft, etc etc. You can even play around with it, check out how fucked some other teams are:

Honka would need to be protected, according to pretty much everything except Heika. I'm not sure why he has him listed as exempt. AHL experience counts towards the "professionals" qualification.

I thought I'd read from Shapiro that Honka was also exempt. But I don't really know. If he has to be protected that really complicates matters. Because Heikas protection list looks reasonable to me.

I had looked at this the other day, but is much easier to understand on iPad version! It also says Honka will not have to be exposed. Honka came to the AHL under odd circumstances, being loaned from a Euro team instead of direct from Jr. team, so regular rules didn't apply.

I guess if Honka was technically on loan for his first AHL season, then he hadn't signed a professional AHL contract and that season didn't count. At least, I bet that's the Stars' argument.

I read somewhere this weekend that Vegas might use the extra spots on like 4 more goalies or something, to stock up, and then trade them to desperate teams.

Vegas still doesn't have an AHL affiliate, as far as I know. But when they do get one, they need to change the name to "[city] Golden Squires"

They can have both of our goaltenders as far as I am concerned.

There is zero chance they'd take either, unless they were just trying to get to the cap floor.

We could probably just not have a goaltender on the team next year and still do better than we did this year lol

Fortunately for Dallas, there's is a literal shitload of UFA goalies available this summer. Bishop, Elliot, Miller, Darling, Bernier, Johnson...

Chris Pronger also goes full UFA this summer. I hear he's pretty good.

Gavin Bayreuther is a 21 year old, 6’1” 194 pound defenceman who has played three seasons with St. Lawrence University. Bayreuther scored 11 goals and had 28 points in 36 games as a junior this past season. His freshman year was very impressive where he scored 36 points before having a dip in his sophomore year producing only 17 points. Scouting reports favour his booming shot from the point as his strongest asset as it is both powerful and accurate. His skating is also an asset showing both speed and agility.

It is funny how we see a big deal made about these signings each year. They seldom turn into quality players, but I get why teams chase them. It's like buying a draft pick.

Junior Lessard could never fill his father Leory Lessard's skates.

Jimmy Vesey was last's year's golden unicorn, and he turned out aight. Justin Schultz may have sucked with Edmonton, but he's rocked with Pittsburgh.

Really, tho, I see no downside to pursuing these guys.

Nill is saying the Stars will protect Nichushkin in the expansion draft and will call up Honka to be a healthy scratch for the last 10 games of the season.

The guys on the Hardline said they have heard through the sports grapevine that the Stars players don't like Ruff, don't like playing for Ruff, and have stopped playing for him.

Pretty damning words from guys who have Ruff on their show every week and generally have nothing to say about the Stars. But it's not surprising given what we see when watching the games.

What hockey grapevine exists that the Hardline would be getting info from?
