Right. I'm not too interested in the theoretical options. Of course they could carry $16 million and three roster spots worth of goaltending, but they won't.

Just something to think about since he did have a down season last year: His stats still ended up being better than Kari & Niemi's LOL.

Of active goalies with 25 playoff games or more. Bishop has the 3rd best GAA and 4th best save % in the playoffs.
2.08 GAA and .926.5% save

And he is also the only available goalie that you touted as being good and not just a product of team defence.

I'm glad we're all happy now (except for Kat).

A new (old) coach that said all the right things,
the 3rd overall pick,
and a new starting goalie.

Not a bad off season so far.

He also had a lot of injuries, so...

Hopefully Nill's not done yet, and just waiting for Wash or NYR to snatch up their backups.

I hope karma doesn't bite me in the ass for calling Kari Glass Fatso for 7 years without him getting hurt.

Or maybe that's just a testament to our conditioning staff and Bish will be "cured" too.

I can see the sword of damocles stabbing either way.

This is where goalies go to die. Expect a .78 save percentage next season.

I think it'll be funniest if he doesn't sign though. Then we can have years of joking about how he was our goaltender in a decade.

He may be tall, but at least he's not slim.

And to think that we coulda had him for Honka and a 1st last summer...

Not that it would've mattered, with all the injuries to our forwards. Brilliant long-term thinking by our Hannibal Lector-level genius GM!

Sorry, but those injuries don't happen if the trade is made. The injuries came from the crushed spirits of having to begin a season with Kari and Niemi in net.

I'd been wondering, the draft pick is guaranteed.

I'd rather send a guaranteed 4th round of magic beans than a conditional pick that might be a 2nd round of much better magic beans.

It tells us that the likelihood of Bishop signing with Dallas is very high.

And that's fine. Bishop, should have a lot to prove after his so so last season.

Last few 4th-round picks by the Stars:

2010: Alex Theriau (who?)
2011: Emil Molin (who?)
2012: Gemel Smith (appears to be a potential bottom-6 NHL player, maybe, someday, possibly)
2013: Nick Paul (who?)
2014: Michael Prapavessis; Brent Moran (double who?)
2015: Chris Martenet (franchise saved?)
2016: Rhett Gardner (we drafted a bad country singer from Canada)

I feel pretty comfortable using a 4th-round pick on a proven NHL goalie.

Nick Paul was the guy we traded to Ottawa for the rights to Spezza. He scored a ton on the OHL, but seems to have leveled off in the AHL (as a rookie).

Martenet is a massive hulk of a d-man who's played well but is nothing to write home about. He'll probably play in Texas this season, but doesn't seem much of an upgrade over Nemeth or the New Nemeth we just got at the deadline.

Gemel will probably be a Dallas Star this season, and for the next 7-10 years as a bottom-six fan favorite. Like Garbutt could've been, except without the serial killer face and cheapshots.

A 4th round draft pick could be anything. Even an overrated, washed up NHL goalie.

I didn't realize Bishop was from North Texas.

Multiple North Texas players are expected to go early in the draft this year. Apparently, hockey is a thing now here. My daughter's classmate plays in the Stars Elite team in that travel league w/ Vern Fiddler's son. They are planning on doing Canadian Juniors. So weird.

Bishop isn't from N. Texas. He played for the Texas Tornado NAHL team in Frisco when he was 18 years old and billeted with a family while finishing out his last year of high school.

And with respect to youth hockey being a thing here now ...

The current metroplex NAHL team, the Lone Star Brahmas play out of North Richland Hills and are one of four teams playing in the Robertson Cup tournament this weekend for the NAHL championship.

I remember when it was just starting. I played for Highland Park from 99-02. I was basically the worst hockey player in the world, but I loved it. Most of us sucked back then, though.
