Also, here's hoping the Wild draft is nothing but Guerin going down a list of 18 year olds and playing "Gay or Not Gay?"
He did not age well.
Ran in to Joe Nieuwendyk at Starbucks about a half hour ago. He still looks very fit, but he did look tired (maybe getting over celebrating his birthday a couple of days ago).

Pretty sure he still lives here. He was a scout for the Hurricanes but I believe stopped doing that last year. His son had been playing locally and is likely going to be playing for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL.

Morissey inked 8 years at $6.1M per. The first sign of giving up on Laine and/or Connor? with $15M below the cap this season and $20M next season, given the RFAs to come, I wish the Jets good luck.

Yeah, Chevaldayoff doesn't seem to go very well... Probably due to the Laine/Connor non-contract issues.

Just for comparison, Marchand makes around the same money and had 100 points last year. Spurgeon had 43.

Benn makes $2 million more for like 7 more points.

I think it’s a decent deal. Spurgeon is a very good d man, despite his size.

But Spurgeon is a defenseman? That seems relevant.
Also, salaries go up.

Re: Central Division Talk
At $7.5M/year it's in the high bracket for that type of players. Still a lot of $$$ but not shocking if you see that Ekblad is at $8M per, Subban at *fargin'* $9M per, Vlasic at $7M per and now Trouba at $8M per. The latter signing clearly set the tone for the uptrend of D-men contract value.
Spurgeon is a key piece in both PK, PP, is fast, has a quality first pass, technically brillant, not often injured and is reliable either defensively and offensively.
But in terms of size, weight and scariness, well...

$8MM - $11MM is the market for top-pair to elite #1 defensemen. $6MM to $8MM looks like the market for top-4 that can be a top-2 now and then.

Spurgeon's also almost 30, was a 25-point d-man for 90% of his career, and last year was both the first and only time he has ever cracked 40 points in a season.

Yeah but I assume you have to overpay to get someone to stay in Minnesota.

So imagine if, one day, there's a team here in Quebec City, with revenues in CAD and paychecks in USD...

Re: Central Division Talk
Let’s trade Honka to the Wild so he can pair with Spurgeon. His deserved salary would bring that line’s total to 8 million, making it more swallowable for the fans.
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

1) Hurricanes have just traded Faulk to the Blues with a 5th rounder for Edmunston, a prospect, a 7th round pick and... nothing more.
2) Faulk immediately signed a 7-year/$6.5M per extension
3) Pietrangelo will be an UFA after the season
4) Blolz

I’d love to have Pietrangelo here. He’s got some miles on him now, but he’s the player people pretend Stephen Johns is.

Definitely. He managed to maintain himself as a dominant piece while his former teammate Shattenkirk (that I thought to be more or less equivalent to him back in the Blues' days) completely faded once he joined the Caps.

He’s injured and his career is over?

We just got revenge for their beating us in the playoffs and that first preseason game. All evened up now.
