Exactly. And will they be better than Laine? Even without Kari in his division spotting him 10-12 goals, he still scored 30 in a "terrible" year. I would love to have one of our first rounders catastrophically slump to just 30 goals.

But those draft picks could be anything, even a Laine.

Marner would be worth it, but not Laine. And I love Laine. It does seem that getting a player via an offer sheet would best work for a team that could support that great player. But then those teams are usually too cash strapped to make an offer sheet.

I’ve come to the conclusion offer sheets are fraught with too many issues. Drafting well is the key, even if it means tanking for at least a few years.

I'd rather have Laine, because his team is in our division. By offersheeting him, we either make them weaker by getting him, or make them weaker by having to match, meaning other important players might bolt.

We are in a position where it would actually make sense too, if we are in the top 3rd of the league next season.

Jokiharju was actually a solid d-man, and easily Chicago's best defensive prospect.

But the new coach didn't like him, so... off to Siberia with ya!

That seems like a bad trade. I mean, maybe its great if this Nylander suddenly becomes like the other Nylander, but otherwise...

I can only guess that they felt they did so well with the Strome trade, that they could pull off a Strome II? But Strome actually tore the AHL up, and was only really a "bust" in the eyes of Chayka, who sucks. Nylander's basically putting up almost the exact same stats in the AHL as another 8th overall pick... Scott Glennie (you've probably never heard of him).

We should get this Scott Glennie character. He sounds great.

Over that same period, the Stars still have on the roster:
Oleksiak
Faksa
Dickinson
Honka
Heiskanen

So really we're kicking the *poo poo* out of Chicago in terms of first round pick success.

Except they were drafting 30th most of those years because they were busy winning Stanley Cups.

I'm pretty disappointed in the Bennington contract. Two years at $4.4 million a season is far too reasonable. I really wanted the Blues to go all in with him on a massive contract.

I hope he flops and gets sent down to the minors. He has such an arrogance about him.

You should listen to Ryan Lambert go on about Binnington. It's amusing.

Yeah, I was really hoping for a 6 year deal or something and then he turns out to be terrible.

I guess the other possibility is he’s actually good and he leaves St. Louis as a Ufa.

Why would you let a GM go through the entire offseason cycle and THEN fire him?

My favorite Fenton story was how he promoted his son to run/ruin their entire draft:

He deserves to be fired. Next up, GM Mike Modano. Ha ha.

There's an odd timing element to firing a GM. If you do so right after the end of a season, then the new incoming GM does not have much time to prepare for the draft. That new GM is also going to be working with a scouting staff that was put together by the prior GM.
