*f-bomb* Tippet. If I'm going to watch boring hockey, it had better win the *fargin'* Cup. Let Tippet chase loser points with some other team.

I'm not interested in some re-tread. The Stars have a terrible habit of playing it safe (and an internal promotion problem), and it's gotten them nowhere. I'd prefer to see someone with new and fresh ideas, not another member of the NHL good ol' boys club.

Great little read from the guy who drafted Big Buff despite him being "too fat." The guy's got some axes to grind and names names, which makes it all the funnier:

Yeah, he clearly does not like Bob Pulford.

Another defender with some serious interest: Pateryn. Don’t be surprised if he ends up somewhere in the $2-million range. Believe Minnesota is one interested party.

Please let him go to a division rival.

I've got nothing against Pateryn - he's a bottom pairing defenseman and in that role he's fine. Wouldn't want to pay $2m a year for him on this squad though.

Trouba is looking for over $8 million a year.
So hopefully they do keep Statsny, then they'll have to pay Laine huge money.

The Coyotes need to fill cap hit of Pronger and Datsyuk.

That's a lot to give up.

That is a lot to give up for OReily. Was hoping he might be a good option for the Stars, but not at that price..

Hosea will be great on a line with Datsyuk and Pronger.

I absolutely hate that teams are allowed to circumvent the cap like this (unless and until the Stars somehow benefit from these types of schenanigans).

Why? The NHL cap is stupid and useless and I fully support efforts to get around it.

That's basically the only reason we got Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns.

I'm fine with this as long as the team soaking up the cap hit gets some decent return for doing so.

That's apples and oranges. Getting rid of a useful player to save that player's salary cap hit is different from trading the cap hit of a retired player who will never put hockey gear on again.

(And it will be particularly galling if it allows Chicago to get Pacioretty)

Without a cap Stars probably don't get Seguin.

I wouldn't hate on the cap too much. Gaglardi is not Hicks. We wouldn't be massive spenders if there wasn't a cap. Although I'll bet our playoff success would be about the same.

An Athletic article earlier today discussed the structure of Ottawa's purported offer to Karlsson, particularly compared to Tavares. The gist of the article was that the lack of signing bonus money being offered by Ottawa was an impediment to getting the deal done. Tavares' deal gives him $44 million of his $77 million in the first 3 years of the contract - and the signing bonus structure is essentially lockout and buyout proof.

I thought this was interesting as it relates to the cap. Those types of structures give cash-rich teams an advantage over cash-poor teams, even if both are offering the exact same dollar amounts over the exact same term. Wonder where the Stars rank in the cash-rich/cash-poor universe?
