It’s a good thing he was driving because he was way too drunk to walk straight.

Is this a new DUI? Was his kid in the back seat again this time?

Nah. It's from 2015. I just didn't hear about it back then.

Looks like Spezza will be scratched for the first Leafs game.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Ok Perry might be an upgrade over Spezza.

This is what is called the Acceptance Phase.

Healthy scratch as I recall. Babcock repeatedly encensed his bottom-6 young players, meaning that Spezza can start to customize his seat in the pressbox to feel at ease.

Healthy scratch. There were folks in the Toronto media wondering if he was even going to make the team after watching him in camp.

None of their scouts had access to Stars games?

Or access to Babcock's prior dealings with aging veterans who aren't big and tough and willing to touch the other team?

Thought I'd provide a full update of the former Stars from last season's team:

Zuccarello - obviously plays on Minnesota's top line
Spezza - scratched opening night
Ritchie - has already taken up his role as fanbase whipping boy with the Bruins as the 4th line winger/scratch
Nichushkin - looks like he'll be in Colorado's healthy scratch rotation
Lovejoy - retired after no one offered him a contract
Pitlick - looks like he's going to be Philly's 4th line RWer
Honka - Nill can't get a team to offer up a 3rd rounder for him
Methot - not officially retired

Are you suggesting, sir, that the Stars may have not had the deepest roster last season? Poppycock.

Hanzal is still a future former Star.

You know, it's interesting.

On one hand, none of the non-Zuccarello guys Nill let go are going to be anything but bottom of the roster scrubs, so it's not like these were hidden gems being under used by the Stars. It probably shows why letting them go was a fine decision in the sense of seeking change for the sake of change. Nothing of value was lost.

On the other hand, all of the forwards got NHL jobs doing essentially the same thing they were with the Stars, so it's not like they were so terrible that they don't belong in the NHL.

We could afford to let them go, we have 4th lines to spare.

Still hasn't scored a goal since 2016, though.

I watched the Hawks play the Golden Knights last night. Go look at the stats for every Vegas forward you have heard of.

Vegas is awesome. I find it both sad and funny that Vegas can put that together from scratch, but Nill can't make a 5 year plan work in 7 years to do anything but get marginally better.
