^Early contender for LOL of the year has presented itself: The Sens and Canucks were set to play each other when the trade was announced, so McKenna walked from one dressing room to the other with his stuff in a garbage bag.

Pretty sure something similar happened when the Stars acquired Chris Therien from the Flyers way back when. His very first game as a Star was in Philly.

As a follow up to my Jan 2 post about McKenna being traded to Vancouver:

Shapiro had an article about his trade situation He was signed by the Senators to fill their AHL role, but was called up and had been on the NHL club. Then, the Senators traded him to Vancouver, who wanted him as AHL depth while they give Thatcher Demko his shot. He had to go through waivers to make it to Utica, and Philadelphia claimed him (he is the 7th goalie the Flyers have used this year). Philly made it his 3rd NHL club in 3 days! Not only that, but he has now been part of the organizational depth of 15 teams!

Really interesting article if you have a subscription: https://theathletic.com/758477/2019/01/09/three-teams-in-three-days-inside-mike-mckennas-week-with-the-senators-canucks-and-flyers/

Makes you feel sorry for his family. Life of the minor league/fringe NHL player is not glamorous.

Campbell can't catch a break. He hasn't allowed more than 2 goals in a game since Nov 1... and has all of three wins since then (in a backup role, but still).

Good news for all you Mike Valley fans on here: he's written a book! And the description is, uh... hmm...

He's actually written three books. Read an interesting article about him several months ago. He really is more of an entrepreneur than a goalie coach. Kind of an interesting dude though.

Remember Jordie Benn? He’s a guy who used to play defense for us.
He’s having a pretty solid year in Montreal — 4G, 13A, +15.
In fact he’s having a better year than Kevin Connauton, Jamie Oleksiak, Patrik Nemeth, Honka, and pretty much every other scrub we’ve tried in the 4-6D spots.

Jordie was never a bad 5/6 defenseman. The problem was, as with so many other players, is that he was being asked to step up a couple spots above where he should be.

This. And he actually had some value when the Stars were sellers.

That goes back to the Stars' total inability to properly evaluate their existing talent. They traded a guy who wasn't a problem, but his usage was, instead of acquiring a more talented guy to push Benn down to where he should have been all along. See Hanzal, Martin and Faksa, Radek.

It was also because Jordie was in the last year of his contract, and the Stars weren't eager to give him a raise. Not when they had young guys like Oleksiak, Nemeth, and Honka ready to step up and be awesome.

Was watching that game. He’s on the league minimum this season after winning a cup with Washington and I believe he was a training camp tryout. Good for him.

Is he a UFA this summer? I would say let's take a run at him, but with the Stars you automatically have to subtract 30 from the goal total so he would probably end up generating 10 own goals....

So he's actually accomplished far more than Spezza since the trade?

That shouldn't even be a minor penalty. Roussel can't skate and fell down straight into Lemieux's arm. Lemieux barely even moved.

How is that a penalty? That wasn’t anything he did.

I agree with both of you.

But Lemieux is a POS so my heart isn't exactly bleeding LOL.

Cody Eakin is having a pretty good year. 19G 18A.
We could really use a guy like that. But when the expansion draft rolled around instead of protecting Eakin we decided to protect Nichushkin.

There's about an 85% chance Eakin scored more goals this season that Nichushkin will the remainder of his NHL career.

I'm pretty sure the Stars would re-do a lot of things focused around the expansion draft if they could.

Not as much as Florida, though.

Yeah, there’s no way Nichushkin scores 19 goals in only 6 weeks.
