I have a nagging feeling that Vegas will be a lottery team in two years.

Same. Their roster on paper really is garbage, and every coach has a shelf life, so what happens once they eventually start tuning Gallant out?
For now though, good for them! I love it.
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

Their roster also has a number of guys having career years and hitting free agency this summer. Vegas is going to feel pressured to pay those guys big bucks, which could very quickly result in Vegas being very heavy in big contracts for guys who never again produce like they did this year.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

They also traded three picks for Tomas Tatar instead of dumping said overpaid/overproducing guys for picks.

The Stars also have a number of players having career years. The broadcast put up a graphic in last night’s game. I wasn’t paying that much attention, but Seguin, Faksa, Johns and a few others.

That’s kind of the weird part about this team this year. It’s not like they are playing awful, slacking off or giving up. But they are still losing. Don’t tell me it’s just Kari, cuz while he’s been a factor in this slide, he’s not the sole reason for lack of success this season.

As much as I dislike Hitchcock, I would not be opposed to keeping Rick Wilson. He's done pretty well on the defense (speaking of Johns).

Guys who have thrived under Hitch:
Seguin
Radulov
Klingberg
Lindell
Johns
Pitlick
Pateryn

Guys who have stayed more or less the same:
Janmark
Faksa
Hamhuis
Elie
Lehtonen
Bishop

Guys who have regressed under Hitch:
Benn
Spezza
Shore
Roussel
Ritchie
Hanzal
Honka
Dickinson
Methot

So it all kinda evens out. Seguin's 10 points-or-so jump is easily canceled out by Spezza totally cratering, for example.

In 77 games last season Benn scored 26 goals, 69 points and was -9. In 77 games this season he's scored 28 goals, 69 points and is +13.

Spezza's cratering began last season when he scored 15 goals, 50 points and was -18 in 68 games after he'd scored 33 goals, 63 points and was +4 in 75 games in 2015-'16.

Yeah but with both of his linemates peaking, Benn's numbers *should* be better.

Spezza's decline started last season, sure, but 50 points in 68 games is still a pretty good clip. 7 goals in 73 games is less than our third-line d-man. Spezza alone has probably cost us a playoff spot, assuming we miss it by 1-3 points.

Benn's decline is not just about his numbers. As has been pointed out before, he doesn't take over games the way he did 3-4 years ago. He floats and scores sometimes. That's it.

Probably will hear more of this in the future.
What's being discussed. Russo mentioned this another day.
If Arizona doesn't move, Colorado will get shifted to the Pacific, with Seattle being added.
Edmonton and Calgary will move to the Central.

If the Coyotes move to say Houston they'll join the Central.
