The only reason Ott scored a goal in juniors was because he played with a non-old Spezza.

Ott is now a bench coach with STL. Funny to see him there. Am sure he's still chirping.

Big Dick Robertson now with 6 points in 4 WJC games, which has him tied for 3rd overall in scoring.

Robertson goes scoreless in the WJC final, which America lost 3-2.
More importantly, Finland's game-winning goal was scored by Kaapo Kakko, which seriously is the greatest name I've ever seen.

Those all white jerseys are a crazy look for an outdoor game.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Re: Texas Stars and Prospects Thread
So Gurianov goes back to the AHL for the All-star game, and just *fargin'* dominates, scoring twice. Here's the first goal:
Leaving aside that Woywitka-level defense, that there's a confident young man shooting the puck. If he could do that up here, instead of deferring to his linemates all the time, he could really do some *fargin'* damage.

Sorry, but I think we have enough of a sample size now to conclude that he's a classic case of "great AHLer, bad NHLer." Stick him in the Travis Morin file and let's move on.

Thank you for putting some responsibility on the player. I too wish he would step up his game and actually score in the NHL. Same with Hintz.

Tell that to the majority of Stars fans on the internet. They act as though he is the next McDavid or something. Why are Stars fans by and large so delusional?

They just want the time they’ve invested into following this team to not be a complete waste. I understand. But it takes some mental gymnastics to arrive at that conclusion.

On the plus side, Landow Bow is literally the only goalie in the NHL this season to have a save % of 1.000
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

Dellenadrea with a 5 point night, giving him 13 points in his last 4 games.

Of course, if that had been in the NHL, it would have been 0 points in 4 games.

Glancing at those highlights, pretty much all within five feet of the crease. That is something the current Stars team does not do a lot of.

Dellandrea's team is basically him and the guy he sets up for one-timers. Their recent 5-4-1 streak has bumped them all the way to 8-33-2.

Re: Texas Stars and Prospects Thread
In addition to his recent hot streak (now up to 48 points in 41 games after a slow start), Dellandrea can take a punch. And twenty more punches after that:
In other news, Guts Robertson now has 70 points in 38 games (33 of them goals), and recently had his 8th four-point night of the season.

The future looks bright for the Stars thanks to our amazing drafting.

Awesome. Another guy who is awesome at the AHL level and fairly to moderately useless at the NHL level.

Re: Texas Stars and Prospects Thread
Young guys generally do what their coaches tell them to do. If Monty told him to "stop hotdogging" and focus more on eliminating mistakes, then that's what you're going to see at the NHL level.

Well that's a large assumption. Maybe Monty told them "score goals" and they've failed miserably at that. Monty is the only one who knows for sure.

I see them staying back and playing conservatively, just like the AHL d-men. Maybe once or twice a game Hintz/Gurianov will streak up the ice with the puck... but then they usually look like they try to defer to an older teammate, and nothing comes of it.
Again: Confidence.

Monty is not the reason these guys can't score in the NHL. They can't score in the NHL because they aren't NHL-calibre. NHL-calibre goal scorers start scoring quickly and early at the NHL level. Roope will probably be a fine depth player as will Gurianov. But, they will never be in the NHL what they are in the AHL.
Nichushkin will probably be back in Russia soon. I don't see him even being a good depth player.

Re: Texas Stars and Prospects Thread
Sean Shapiro pointed out recently that goal scoring is a talent. It's not any different than face-off skills or defensive stick-checking. And be it poor development, poor drafting, or some combination of those, the Stars just don't have any players with that talent.
