I just realized former Stars defenseman Doug Lidster, who played like 3 games in 98-99, is an assistant coach for the Texas Stars.

Recent evidence indicates that hockey is never going to work in Texas.

They went 3-0 in the preseason with a few blowouts, for whatever that's worth.

Re: Texas Stars thread
I just realized no one created a GDT for what would have been this season's first Dallas Stars game. You lazy bums. We need better thread creators here.

I'm pretty sure I walked by Gully on the suite level at the AT&T Center last night, but having never seen him in person (other than at a large distance during Dallas games), I wasn't quite sure. If it was him, he looked pretty bored.

Cambell is a bust. Should have gotten Fowler.

Glennie seems to be the bigger bust. (Who wasn't even in the lineup) Should have taken Mangus Parvej.
Campbell has barely scratched the surface, and he's a goalie, they take longer to ripen.

I've only seen Campbell once, and it was at the end of a 3 day in-a-row stint, but he looked pretty good to me.

Was it the Justin Bieber music that rendered this decision?

And that is the difficulty of picking 17 and 18 year old kids with a #11 pick. The boom to bust ratio at that spot is a significant drop off from the top five where it's still not possible to get it right.
I'm super disappointed that the Glennie (and possibly Campbell) pick has been a waste. It sucks. This team dragged us through *poo poo* for four seasons, and it's not even like the higher draft picks are turning into awesome successes. For all of that horrible play and missing the playoffs, you'd like to think that you at least got some star players out of the draft, and so far, I'm not exactly overwhelmed with what those four years of *poo poo* have produced in the draft.

Not really, since they're playing back to back and they were going to use both goalies. Makes sense to start Campbell in the home opener, while giving Nihlstorp his first start on the road.
Tonight after two the Stars are tied 1-1, Eakin with the goal and Campbell's playing very good. Reilly Smith is also standing out.

I'm optimistic about Oleksiak and Faksa.

Vincour and his hands of gold will just inflate Eakin's stats and tease us.

Re: Texas Stars thread
It appears that Eakins has the hands. Hard to believe he has a smoother touch than Vincour, though.
