Last season, Gurianov did nothing in the first half of his AHL season and scored at a decent (but still not great) pace during the second half. It looks like he's repeating the pattern this season. This is going to make it tough for Nill to know what to expect next year. Can he pencil in a spot for Gurianov, or are we in for another glacially slow start next season?

Doesn't that make it easier? Keep him down in Austin until January, then bring him up and watch the goals pour in.

Pour in? He hasn't even reached the production of Brett Ritchie in the AHL and we see how well Ritchie is doing in the NHL.

Meh. Gurianov isn't even as old as Klingberg was when he was demoted from the Swedish league. I was super high on Barzal when he dropped in our laps but that ship has sailed (and let's not forget that had we drafted Barzal, he'd almost assuredly still be playing in the AHL right now).

I'm willing to see what Gurianov does over the next two seasons before declaring him Glennieov. We've got plenty of other prospies like Roope, Dickinson, Robertson, Tufte, and Caamano who are lighting it up, waiting for that amazing day when Hitch will finally trust them to do a better job than Hanzal.

Colton Point gave up two goals over three games, including a series-clinching 2-0 shutout, as his team advanced out of the first round of the playoffs. So far this season he's got a minuscule 1.62 GAA and leads all college goalies with a .948 save percentage.

Most of our prospies are going to the playoffs, at least. Colton Point's Colgate flamed out, but he finished the season with a .944 save percentage and miniscule (esp. for college) 1.74 GAA. He's a finalist for the Hobey Baker award for best player in college.
Meanwhile, Oettinger just shut out basically everybody and was declared the Hockey East tournament MVP.

Also meanwhile, Jason Robertson finished his regular season with 41 goals and 47 assists in just 68 games. Led the league in shots by a mile. Just a one-man wrecking ball.

Robertson should be fast tracked then. I think the Stars overall do a fairly poor job pushing players.

Robertson and one of those goalies would indeed compliment adding Heiskanen (and hopefully trading Val) next season.
Because I swear to christ my entire body will shut down with rage if we bring back Lehtonen (and I'm expecting that we will).

Also, I'm prolly being a little biased towards Robertson because he is also half Asian.

Robertson tore up the OHL two seasons in a row.

The Blackhawks had Alex DeBrincat tear up the OHL last season. He was a second round pick the season before Robertson. He made the jump to the NHL this season and has had a great rookie season.

It can be done.

But there is zero chance of that happening here. Nill will want Robertson to percolate two more seasons in the AHL because Nill is not good at developing players. Then again, even if he was given a roster spot, he'd spend his entire time alternating between scratch and 4th line because Hitch HATES young players.

When you can sign a mediocre vet in the offseason and claim you're doing something, it also provides a great excuse for why you can't fit those young players on the roster.

Another thing is the usage of players. If it's a skilled player, put them in a role where they can play with other very skilled players. Tampa does that really well most of the time, then they sell high on some of the players.
It's a complete waste to put skilled players on the 4th line and expect them to produce, or play them limited minutes.

That's the part I don't understand. The Stars aren't the only team guilty of it either. Some players, like Ott, may have produced high numbers in juniors but their skill set is clearly destined for a different role in the NHL. Others make no sense trying to put in a checking role.

He's actually got a really nice shot. It's a mystery why he doesn't score more goals.

Oettinger stops 30 of 31 to upset the #1 team in the country.

Riley Tufte with the primary assist on the opening goal in a 2-1 win, so UMD moves on to the Frozen Four in both of Tufte's years on the team.

Time to get your hopes up. The Stars are in on another college d-man who went undrafted. Daniel Brickeky is American. Despite that hockey handicap, he had a nice college season and made the World Championship team last summer.

It looks like Detroit and Boston are after him as well. He wants to sign with a US team because *f-bomb* Canada.
