Stars awarded Doug Janik off waivers

Postby Jason » Thu Oct 02, 2008 2:04 pm

I'm not sure if anyone else put in a claim for him, but the Stars now have Janik.

Janik is a stay at home defenseman that plays a simple game.

Good. They needed one of those to replace Norstrom.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

I wonder if this may lead to a trade? We have a glut of d-men now and when Zubie is healthy, this will put us over the 7 d-men.

Boucher?
Robidas?

Or am I just speculating?

Given the way last year went, I wouldn't put a lot of money on all 8 being healthy at once.

Thinking out loud here...

I don't think Fistric has to clear waivers to go down. I wouldn't be totally surprised if the Stars keep Janik up as the everyday scratch and send Fistric up/down with the injuries so that he's always getting consistent playing time.

Given the relative lack of depth on the back end beyond the top 7, I still think they want to carry at least eight, and probably nine guys just in case.
