Luongo named Captain

Postby slaps » Tue Sep 30, 2008 6:38 pm

I thought goalies couldn't be named Captain, as the "C" might be mistaken for a puck on a video replay?

Winamp - it really whips the llama's ass.

I've never heard that as the explanation.

It doesn't say in the rules, but I swear I read that somewhere.

Interestingly enough, Buffalo's Co-Captain's from a couple years ago was explicitly against the rules.

League rules state that Luongo can't wear the C, but can still be named team captain.

Willie "*goddess*" Mitchell will be the player in charge of talking to the officials on a nightly basis.

This is so dumb that it hurts my already retarded brain.
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

Naming Roberto Luongo captain today reinforces that the Vancouver Canucks pretty much have nothing else going on.

Too true. Too true.

yeah, this move makes no sense.
oh well.
"We have play like *poo poo*."

How is it dumb? Luongo is no doubt the leader on the ice and I can't imagine him not being the leader in the locker room. They usually win or lose depending on how good of a game he has. Makes sense to me.

For once I agree with Lobo.
I see nothing wrong with him being a captain.

According to the NHL rulebook, goalies can not technically "act" as captains.  The rule was put in place in the late 1940s after criticism that Canadiens captain Bill Durnan was too often leaving his crease to protest calls, creating timeouts.

Daryl Reaugh once said "goalies can't be captains" although goalies are a "sort of team captain anyway".

He lied to me.

Why, Razor, why?
