While we’re at it, let’s also do the pledge of allegiance and the Bellamy salute.

The PC police won. They said how offended they were, so the anthem is back.

Wasn't it the PC Police who said that the anthem was offensive to begin with? LOL

This is the anti-woke PC police.

I know. It doesn’t really make sense. I think there’s a spreadsheet I have somewhere that might help.

Stars picked a side. They could have just played the anthem and that was it. Dumb.

The Stars get to hide from Tampa again.

The more these games accumulate, the higher the chance we don't actually have to play Tampa at the end of the season when we're trying to resched 19 games in two weeks.

100% on-board with that.

The problem though is the Stars are not in a good place when it comes to points percentage. If the season ended today, the Stars are out of the playoffs by either total points or points percentage. When they first started losing games, it was easy to look at the games in hand as a way for them to make up ground, but they've now lost more games than they've won. No matter what system is used to pick playoff teams, the Stars need to start winning some *fargin'* games.

Yeah, 5-3-4 definitely looks a bit more sexy than 5-7. And let's hope to avoid 18 additional winter storms sweeping Texas and going up to Tennessee and the great lakes while reaching Florida as well.

How *fargin'* hard is it to flip these games against Tampa into Tampa home games?

Tampa has the Raptors playing in their arena, it’s not just sitting empty.

This was a good way to finish the homestand though. Can’t lose games if you don’t play.

They didn't cancel the national anthem for these games though, did they?

44 games in 78 days - presuming the league requires the Stars to play the eight postponed games. While this team has been resilient the past 18 months or so, that may be asking too much. Particularly given the injuries the team has already experienced.

The current NHL season was based on being over before the Olympics started, I believe. Are the Olympics actually going to take place this summer?

I believe I've heard pronouncements from Japanese authorities that the Olympics will happen.

It should be noted that the push to finish before the Olympics has nothing to do with the players. This is the summer Olympics. We get to deal with shutting down for the Winter Olympics next year. This is strictly about bending the knee for NBC. They'll be dedicating all their resources to broadcasting the Olympics, so unless you want the Stanley Cup Finals broadcast on somebody's iphone over Tik Tok, they better finish before the Olympics start.

Unless the team I follow is playing, Tik Tok away.

The Stars don’t play again until Monday? They couldn’t find a way to make up one of their games during this downtime?

Considering how the lines as we know them haven't worked in weeks, blending things up is nice to see. Gotta try something, even if it means demoting your captain to the 4th line.

I haven’t been looking ahead at the schedule. Did today, and holy *poo poo*. Five straight road games. Panthers three times. Tampa Bay twice. This might start looking very ugly by the end of the week.

Interesting read on player birthdates. I think I remember something about this in Gladwell's Outliers, but being born in the right month is apparently a huge advantage in all major sports:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/wh ... es-a-star/

But being born in the wrong month is a *better* indicator of whether you're an average athlete or super elite. That is, the kids who were small and young who still managed to make their youth teams benefited from playing with the older kids, were in general probably more talented, more disciplined, etc etc.

A quick look at the roster for the Jan/Feb birthdays reveals relatively few picks, but they're all, uh, "offensively challenged":

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/team/dallas-stars/roster

Really, a surprising number of Stars were born in June and July.

Lots of Finns and Swedes are born in summer because in october-november-december with the depressing darkness and sunset at 2pm, either you kill yourself or you *f-bomb*.
