Bow kinda sorta is. Who will be the Cedar Park back-up to Point once Jake the Snake Otter is called up during Bishop's yearly hurtcation? And for that matter, who is going to be our actual back-up/default starter?

Also, what about Heatherington (the captain) and Bayreuther? LOL

If the AHL plays this season, they’ll be able to sign an AHL goalie for cheap.

Colton Point is still in the system. At one point he was probably as highly regarded as Oettinger, but last year they went in different directions.

One gm talking about condensed schedule.

Any goalie the Stars sign will play a lot with the likely condensed schedule. Stars have a great selling point. Play half the games at least, face easy shots from the perminater of the rink in the Stars system, get a great deal in free agency elsewhere the next season.

Heard that Nill is discussing with the Wings for a potential deal including Bishop, but conditional of Khudobin's future. I don't see that happening at all.

Zetterberg is still on the books with the Wings for a $6M cap hit but only $1M actual salary for one more year.

I mean, I like Seguin, but maybe they Stars shouldn't have committed so much term and money to a guy who hasn't been a top-tier player since the Achilles and is now having hip problems before he's 30?

As much as that sucks for Johns, I find it very cool that the organization wasn't like "get your ass out there, hockey monkey." The fact that they've let him deal with this in his own way reflects highly on Nill as a person.

Sitting Johns in this situation was the right thing to do for sure, but it’s not altruism, it’s covering your ass for liability reasons.

If he's not formally on IR, they can suspend him and not pay him, I believe.

I kinda wish Seguin had just had his surgery and sat out the playoffs. He really brought next to nothing, and took top line minutes to do it. It's not like Tampa suffered much from losing Stamkos, and they benched Point for 3 games while he recovered from one of his ailments.

At this point there was pretty much no other option anyway. Training camp starts in like 7 weeks.

I'm guessing they still retain Honka's RFA rights... I would 100% give him a shot on a 1 year minimum contract. We'd be almost foolish to pass up a cheap gimme RHD who theoretically knows how to move the puck. I don't know what discussions he's had with Nill/the organization over the last year and a half since he left, but who knows what's transpired. I think some of his struggles came with having to eat 3rd pair minutes behind Klingberg and a healthy Johns on a Lindy Ruff shitshow of a team.

Janmark and Perry leaving is fine. Lots of kids fighting for roster spots. Most of which I feel will carve out some sort of NHL career. I don't think we want a 35 game, 34 y/o otherwise journeyman goalie signed for 3 years even if he is an amazing influence in the locker room.

Also, that injury list is pretty wicked. A couple long term things I would be worried about, hip and knee injuries mainly.

Honka has zero trade value, so bringing him back is a no risk option. If he still sucks, put him on waivers and send him to the AHL. If he shows and sign of having something, maybe Nill could finally get that mid round draft pick when he traded Honka.

I just had the surgery Khudobin did. Keep in mind, it's not as bad as they're making it sound. His entire arm wasn't numb. There are multiple nerves controlling your hands. The ulnar nerve he tore loose controls your pinkie and half of your ring finger. The surgery and recovery isn't so bad. It just takes quite a while of not doing much with your arm while you let it heal.

They probably asked him and he said he wanted to play. You're not gonna tell him no when he's the face of the franchise.

Maybe he's had that torn labrum awhile and once that's fixed he'll be a little bit faster?

Also, did Seguin have his hip surgery already? If so, does that mean he won't be back playing until February?

Nill said November is the surgery target date, so he probably won't be playing until February or March.

Well, he missed that St. Louis series with injury. And now he'll both suck for the playoffs AND miss 50-60% of the regular season.

You know the Seguin I can’t wait to see? The one who will have not been able to do any serious leg exercises for six months.

Maybe Honka does better with a coach like Bowness. Who knows? But if he signs for cheap, what's the harm?
