I am still holding out hope that somehow, some way, Hoffman comes to the Stars. The dude kind of sucks at everything but routinely scoring like 30 goals a year even on bad teams.

And yet we still drafted Nichushkin.

He actually died of an OD quite some time ago while filming the last Hunger Games movie.

Instead of eliminating offside challenges, the league is making the rule match the eye test to reduce the number of 2mm errors only able to be caught in slow mo zoomed in 4k.

I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

The point of offside challenges is fine for catching egregious errors. The small whisper of a blade being off was a joke of a loophole.

That seems like a great change.

Like that litmus.

I hate that in football too. If you couldn’t possibly see something in real time, just let the call stick.,

There should be a time limit between the infraction and the goal on offside challenges too. If they’re offside and score on a rush, that’s on them. But if they’re a millimeter offside and pin you in the zone for two minutes and then score, that’s on you.

Was Kucherov training in Dallas over the summer or something? I thought we had a monopoly on career-limiting hip surgeries.

I mean they're paycheck loans. Pittsburgh will have to pay them back.

I don’t know about the Penguins specifically, but the “loans” from the spring and summer are forgivable as long as you achieve certain thresholds. K got one, met the thresholds and the loan was forgiven at that point. Dunno if that’s the case here, but it’s not just “a loan.”

I was assuming they'd never meet forgiveness requirements but if they do they'd be smart to get one for sure. Even if they don't the interest rate is so low.

How is it good for the Stars? This allowed Tampa to sign a RFA they couldn't sign before, who is an important part of their team.

Basically addition by substraction for what's worth. Paquette was one of the most underrated Lightning forward and Coburn is still a serviceable and strong D-man. Not a huge loss like Kucherov, but still a loss.

It's players that are easily replaceable, with others they have. Cireilli they could officially sign to an extension. Tampa still has lots of quality depth.

I mean, why would it be against the rules? Any team who wanted to sign Hoffman had all off-season to do so.

I was working on a "get paid in retirement by agreeing to a LTIR" conspiracy theory for Henrik Lundqvist, but this is clearly the real deal. He's going to have open heart surgery.

One final note on Hoffman, I checked with the league and the NHL is fine with what’s transpiring in St. Louis because nothing officially locks the player to the Blues, nor the club to Hoffman if either side changes their mind ahead of Jan. 13. So no rules were broken here.

And I mean, while there’s obviously a verbal arrangement between the Blues and Hoffman, nothing can stop another team from swooping in over the next few weeks and offering a deal that the player simply couldn’t refuse.
