re: Duclair

Pass. His career stats outside of last season’s first 37 games are pure cheeks. Plus he’s not a buyout case, and was most likely heading to arbitration, so his ask, although “cheap”, will be more than he’s worth/we can spare LOL.

With Monopoly money? Duclair is looking to get paid, he is very inconsistent. If the Stars traded Radulov and needed a replacement, then maybe they try a 1 year deal. Stars probably would be better off giving those minutes to Robertson. Based on what's said by DeFranks the Stars will not buyout Coligano.

Grabner would be a much better choice for the team as he was just bought out and he's way more consistent and will help out the team's PK, I'm guessing he could be signed for around $1.5 million.

WIth the glut of 3rd/4th liners, and the cost cutting going on around the league there will be plenty of deals out there. Unfortunately the Stars probably won't be able to take advantage of it, unless it's a goalie or someone who wants to win.

The top free agents will get their money, it's the others who will get less money according to Pierre McGuire back in September. With all the players being not tendered, bought out you can see that it's starting.

Can add 25 year old Tampa rookie Carter Verhaeghe to the non-qualified list to consider. He was arbitration eligible, and Tampa didn't want to be tied to it.

Apparently a deal that involved Pacioretty just fell through. Vegas are desperately trying to move Fleury and clear cap space, but refused a 1st pick to Carolina along with him. Golden Knights are getting more and more screwed.

Yeah they're changing the veteran core of the team, and giving younger players a chance, and retooling the organization as they're playing a faster pace style under their new coach.

It's a combination of factors on this trade.
1 is expansion draft, as they will be forced into protecting 4 defenseman, 4 Forwards, 1 goalie (vs Forwards 7-3 D-1 G) which means they'd have to leave Kunin or Greenway exposed and lost for nothing. As they are forced to protect Zucarrello
2 They were unhappy with Kunin's play, and felt like he'd get passed by other prospects in the lineup, so they sold high on him.
3 They got a great return on him

With Nashville's new cap space they are expected to go after Taylor Hall, according to TSN.

This atypical situation is creating lots of uncommon processes with all this bunch of no-more-RFA players. We can easily imagine the kind of discussions during negotiations:

Player: My goal is to reach an agreement on a long-term contract at $6M AAV based on my tremendous performances of last year.
GM : Well, you know the context, the pandemic, the flat cap, blah blah blah. We're offering you a 4-yr contract at $4M AAV. No more.
Player: No *fargin'* way! You're *fargin'* kidding right?
GM: No...
Player: So Screw you, unreasonable jackass.
GM: You wanna go that way? No problem. So I'm taking this qualifying offer, rolling it and now stick it deep into your butt, just to see if it fits. Go on, try the open market, you're free now.
Player: Thanks, I eagerly wanted to leave this *excrement hole* anyway. You'll see, I'll be signed and will be happy to score hatties against your shitty team while skating in circles and fingering you all.
GM: If it doesn't work for you, we can still manage to have a deal...
Player: Sure, asswipe.

Two weeks later:

Player: Well, I didn't get any offers so far...
GM: Ok. I can offer you a 3-yr contract at $1M AAV. Interested?
Player: Deal!
GM: Welcome back home! I was sure we could figure this out. Let's move forward!
Player: Thanks. I'm proud of being a member of this team for the three years to come.

Habs finally managed to get rid of Domi. With Tortorella on the bench, seems like the last call for him. But $5.3M AAV is a lot...

Only two years for Domi, and I tend to think that playing in Montreal is more harmful than helpful for a lot of guys. Not a bad risk by CBJ, especially given than talks with Anderson likely weren't going anywhere. CBJ is apparently very bad to deal with, and Anderson's agent is a hard-liner.

I'd take a low-cost flyer on Wennburg for depth.

Avs are apparently leaning on a short-term deal with Hall. If this happens, Colorado will be a scary contender. The goalie is still a questionable point.

A lot of their core will be due huge contracts, Makar/Landeskog after next season, Kadri year after, MacKinnon is a FA in three years.
They can offer Hall 1-3 years, 3 years if they plan to get rid of Kadri after his deal.

I think the only way the Stars go out and make a splash is if they move a middle 6 winger, or find a guy on a 1 year contract who can play middle 6 center better than Hintz/Pavelski/Dickinson/Faksa/L'Esperance in that order.

My stupid guesses about pending FA:

Pietrangelo: stays in STL
Hall: back in NJ
OEL: stays in AZ
Crawford: stays in CHI
Lundqvist: retirement
Ryan: NSH
Fleury: CAR
Turris: PHI
Khudobin: COL
Holtby: stays in WSH
Dadonov: CAR
Hoffman: NYR
Grandlund: VAN
Grabner: ANA
Athanasiou: Europe
Abdelkader: KHL
Nametsnikov: stays in COL
Schneider: Europe
Krug: stays in BOS
Simmonds: TOR

A future buyout in year 6 or 7, if he's not traded by then.

Are the Habs nuts ?!?! Too bad they were in the trend of making good transactions, but if it's to sign insane contracts after that, it's just not worth. On the other hand, if this can contribute to screw this organization and tight their balls in the Alzner 2.0 art, I'm ok.

Not just anyone can score 4 points in 26 games. When a player like that lands in your lap, you back up the money truck.

LOL so apparently Domi and Anderson are good friends (old OHL teammates) and were golfing together when they found out that they were traded for each other LOL.

Leafs sign Wayne Simmonds (1-year x 1.5 million, NMC).

Tampa puts Tyler Johnson on waivers ...

No Ekman-Larsson deal reached by his deadline, agent says he's staying in Phoenix.

I guess Simmonds that cheap doesn't hurt, but I don't think he really helps.
