That's more than I thought he'd get, but that's an excellent signing for Winnipeg.

I guess Jon Gruden is already out as the Raiders coach.

I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

I guess the Wild are eager to shake up bodies in the room.

Since it’s Guerin, I would assume he’s looking for players that will better instill a country club atmosphere?

I look forward to bitching about our new third line of Bobby Ryan, Turris, and Cogliano.

Small penance for the Preds compared to how fucked they should have been by that idiotic Weber contract they handed out. I still can’t believe another team took that contract ofd their hands.

They matched the offer sheet, right? That wasn't their contract. And again, the NHL is shitty and went back and is trying to punish teams for contracts that the NHL approved.

Yeah Philly did the contract, and instead of taking the FIVE first round picks and running, the Preds matched.

That's a pretty inconsequential savings compared to the contract. They must have decided they were done with him. This seems like a spite buyout.

At what point does the NHL vote to allow some form of write off for these dead cap hits?

It's the country club since the inception of Suter and Parisé. With the riddance of Koivu, Guerin gained a bit more leverage but he won't be able to get rid of them before the end of their stupid contracts, hence clearing the room for a true rebuild.

Probably not this offseason, but I could see some form of cap relief next offseason after hockey related revenue and consequently the cap drop by 30-40%.

I think never. The PA would love it as would the rich teams, but the poorer teams want there to be penalties like these because they reduce the total amount of salaries being paid out.

I'm old enough to remember when the Wild "won" free agency by signing Parise and Suter.

My "modern era" benchmark is when the Rangers signed Drury and Gomez LOL.

Aw man I forgot about Holik lol. Holik got that contract and he was basically a pre-modern Martin Hanzal.

Speaking about old, a little parenthesis design-related. After the Sabres and the Flames, the Sens are officially going back to their original logo and uniforms. With the Blues, Coyotes, Caps, Jets, Ducks and Devils having their retro design as third jerseys, there's an obvious trend in going vintage.

I think the Predators had just traded / let walk some big-name players, and they felt they HAD to match to keep what fanbase they had at that point.

The Predators passed on picks #11, 17, 7, 22, and 2 (assuming the Flyers pick in the same spots).

Yeah, that hurts. Pretty sure Provorov is, uh, good.

I guess they didn't even want to bother with arbitration.

I really hope the Sens management did not base their decision on that... Because either they are numb, or they are not aware that Duclair has finally been able to grow a brain. If they really want to clean the house and in a full rebuild mode, then go all-in and demolish the awful Canadian Tire Center and build a real arena in downtown Ottawa, just to be sure that nothing remains from the previous era they want to wipe out.

HIs first 37 games would have made him the top scorer for the entire season by the Stars. Give him a try.
