Just missed seeing a Cam Fowler Hat Trick, where you're on the ice for all three goals against in a loss.

They still got the win despite the whole team being Nichushkinized.

Shitty training camp by Monty & Nill = 4-7-1. Seems like play in their own zone is getting better.

That was boring. So we're going to do 2-1 hockey all the way through again this year, huh? Despite going out and signing a guy who scored 38 goals last year?

Yes, it appears we’ll have to win a lot of games 2-1, which I’ll gladly take.

Two points, that's all that matters. After some offensive rays of sunshine against the Sens, another poor effort by the Stars. Were the Ducks a totally other team than last year as suggested by the analysts? Possible, but it's still a bottom team in rebuild mode. They caused a lot of trouble to Stars players, preventing them to develop any structured schemes by either blocking the neutral zone at three, sometimes even four players, or fore-checking high with two guys. As a result, the Stars only managed to get some chances on counterattacks when they were able to pass through the Ducks' wall and it was a festival of turnovers and icings in the worst moments of the game. Finally, Bishop saved the evening, again.

The fourth line was the best, which is quite embarrassing given the supposed offensive strength the Stars supposed to have. Like it not not, but we need to have a guy like Gurianov as he can at least skate faster than an obese snail and generate some offensive even if it's clumsy from time to time. Pavelski was transparent, Radulov even more awful as well as Faksa despite his opportunities. We are really not out of the woods with Benn but as opposite to Radulov he's trying a little bit, and the line Hintz-Benn-Perry seems to be legit. Klingberg also showed improvements in his game; I'm still a bit skeptical with the Heiskanen-Klingberg pairing, two offensive-minded D-men but they tend to be more aware of their defensive responsabilities.

With the Perry and Cogliano lines set, this leaves Monty with juggling with six guys over two lines. Right now they are going nowhere. About Radulov, Monty actually did bench his ass: he had twice less shifts from the first to the third period, leading to a total-low of less than 13' for the whole game.

I liked how Monty stapled Gurianov to the bench in the second period after he provided literally our only offensive chances.

Anaheim seems to be a team like the Stars, they are gonna have to grind it out to get anything. Which is exactly what we saw, two so so teams, grinding it out. Of course the Stars should be the better team, but we are what we are.

What the hell was that about anyway? Gurianov was suddenly really great last night. I don't get it. Maybe Monty isn't such a great coach after all?

If this is the season - 2-1 games - I'm probably out on making it a point to watch hockey. It's so *Dang ol'* boring.

Just checked the shift logs for Gurianov, it's not obvious that he was benched on purpose as well as his linemates. It's regular all throughout the game, but the Stars had their two PKs in the second period, so he was not going to be on the ice during these four minutes.

Gury was a force on the ice nearly every shift. Of which there were next to none. Ten minutes of ice time on the night.

He played the same ice time as his linemates. He wasn't benched.

Someone who did get benched was Radulov who didn't see the ice for the last seven or so minutes of the game.

We are absolutely fine if we can just generate about .5 more goals per game. It's frustrating right now.

Keep in mind scoring is still up league wide like last season. Adding .5 goals per game would bump the Stars from dead last at 31st in goals per game all the way up to 24th in the league. To get up to the league mid point, they'll need to find add a whole goal per game.

10-ish minutes of ice time as a fourth line player is absolutely normal. Coaches do skip the fourth line in the rotation to bring up some tempo sometimes in the game, going to 1st-2nd-3rd and again 1st-2nd-3rd and so on, depending on the current situation. And Radulov was effectively the only one to be glued on the bench as he didn't appear on the ice from 12-13 minutes in the last period.

I agree with you. If you have a hot hand, you play them more. Move him up to a higher line if you have to, but you play him more to get as much offense out of him as you can while it lasts, especially with a player you aren't sure will repeat the success.

Of course, it's too late now. He'll probably never score again.

Just think about how much better he’d be next year if he had another year of AHL seasoning this year.
Could of.

And Pavelski logically demoted.

I don't expect those lines to last longer than that tweet. Radulov on the checking line? Riiiight.

Nope. They are only allowed to score .5 goals more per game.
