I’m impressed with Jamie’s ability to maintain his scoring pace even with no games.

No turnovers, a +/- differential of 0.

A significant improvement.

He should head home to Russia, probably a better chance of getting tested.

Yes, but we decided testing for the virus would be bad because it could result in there being more positive cases.

Razor and Josh ranked 2nd in the Athletic's rankings of NHL broadcast teams:

The results: “The team is a gem,” said one Stars fan. “Don’t tell the rest of the world about them.”

It’s an academic request, given that Reaugh is one of the best-known commentators in hockey, with a slew of Canadian, American and even video game broadcast credits to his name. Bogorad’s in only his second year in Dallas and doesn’t have the same name recognition but has made an immediate impression even outside Texas.

“I think Josh Bogorad and Daryl Reaugh are a great tandem which is interesting given the changes in the past three or four years to the Dallas broadcast team,” said a Carolina respondent.

The changes mentioned refer to the fluctuation at play-by-play since the departure of Ralph Strangis in the summer of 2015. Dave Strader, his replacement, died following a battle with cancer in 2017. Reaugh filled in on play-by-play for most of two years, with former Dallas defenceman Craig Ludwig handling colour. Bogorad was promoted to play-by-play work at the start of last season and has quickly established a reputation for quality work.

Brien Rea’s work in studio and the quality technical aspects of the Fox broadcast also earned praise.

“The Stars broadcast switching to the behind-the-net camera when teams are breaking out is something every single broadcast should adopt,” suggested a voter in Minnesota.

It’s Reaugh’s insightful analysis and extensive vocabulary that anchor the Dallas production, though.

“I mean … Razor,” wrote a local respondent in explanation of their “very good” rating. “‘Nuff said.”

The bottom line: Headlined by its brilliant in-game analyst, one of the league’s best local broadcasts is once again in top form.

It’s so effing weird not having sports all the time.

So weird.

I don't really miss sports. I don't give a *poo poo* about the NBA or MLB, and it's not football season. And as it turns out I don't really like hockey all that much.

This would have been the last week of the regular season. It really is too bad for the Stars. I know y'all don't think they are a contender, but this is a good team built for the playoffs and they had a decent chance in my opinion.

I'm glad to see the Bruins and Wings get rated so low, but I'm out of the loop on the rest since I no longer have Center Ice. I liked getting to hear other broadcast teams talk about the Stars just for different perspectives, but it also highlighted how the Stars have long been blessed with a great broadcast. There is a lot of terrible announcing out there. Razor put in a lot of work to become a good broadcaster, but there are lots of former players who clearly think they can wing it all because they were long time NHL players. The worst seem to be guys who were players for the teams they're announcing.

That said, there are a lot of Stars fans who hate the broadcast, but I bet most all of them don't listen to other broadcast teams to know what the alternative could be. Some hate Razor for not being critical enough. Some hate Razor for being overly critical of their favorite spare part player (the Honka army freaked out every time Razor dared to point out how Honka's beer league level defense would lead to goals against). I get on Razor for his lazy "tired" excuse that he slaps on the Stars most of the times they lose.

For people who aren't as happy with Razor these days as they used to be, I put most of that on the Stars. This team has been a boring watch the last three seasons. They've been bad more seasons than they've been good over the past decade. This team has only been truly fun to watch for maybe 30% of the last decade, and I think that ends up being most of the reason people are frustrated with Razor.

Razor was on the Winter Classic episode of Puck Soup, and he talked about how it's hard to be entertaining or to really do a good presentation about a hockey game when the team sucks, has sucked for a while, and shows no signs of getting better. I think he said something like winning is just as fun for the broadcast team as it is for the players. He was surprisingly candid.

For a lot of teams it doesn't matter. They're getting viewers no matter who the broadcasters are.

Have you looked at what Benn's buyout would look like? It's painful. Benn's contract was created to be buyout proof. There is no cap savings by buying him out.

Benn's contract is a $9.5 million cap hit through 2024-25. If you buy him out, Benn is a $8.8 million cap hit through 2024-25. Same duration with no real savings. There's also a minor cap hit running for five years beyond his contract.

The article is about a potential compliance buyout, with no cap impact.

We’d be grinding it out in the 2nd round about now, when Bowness’ lock down hockey is most effective.

That would be fine. I can find something else to watch half the time.

Also, it’s pretty clear that the Stars succeeded in spite of Bowness, and were coming back down to what they would be generally with him as a coach when everything paused. So hopefully he won’t last long if they keep him.

Yeah, Bowness got very lucky with the virus stopping the season. The Stars were in a tailspin of suck.

Early 90's hockey was pretty fun because they scored a lot. But, when good goaltending became a thing and Lemaire introduced the trap, it all went downhill.

I still remember a few 0-0 ties back in that era.
